Really? I will need to look this up some time soon, as that sounds like my cup of tea! I don't particularly care for the increased ammo pickups in the BFG Edition either, as it makes what is already a pretty easy game even more ridiculous. In the original Doom 3 release, ammo wasn't exactly scarce, but you couldn't go ham with the more powerful guns as soon as you got them.
In the Lost Mission, I had enough plasma cells to use the plasma gun as my main weapon shortly after I first picked it up. And by the end of that mini-campaign, I hadn't even managed to fire off all my BFG ammo either.
One thing I really liked about the Lost Mission was the new audio logs. The voice acting for some of them, like the ones by Allen Rhodes, was truly excellent--you can really hear the mixture of disbelief, growing fear, and uncertainty in the man's voice. Rhodes is trying to remain calm, but he has no idea what is going on, other than it is something seriously FUBAR beyond any sane definition of the term.
It's easy to imagine that most of the UAC personnel--civilian workers and Marine security--reacted similarly. Very few people probably grabbed a shotgun and started blasting Imps in the face, which is why the demons had no trouble steamrolling the UAC security personnel even though many of the creatures like Imps, Maggots, and Wraiths aren't particularly hard to kill.
After all, most people's first impression upon seeing a weird, "alien" creature they've never seen before isn't to double-tap it in the head, unless they are a Space Marine or a Spartan from Halo, perhaps. Rather, it is to stare, marvel, and/or freak out shortly before said creature eviscerates them or their buddies.
he's correct, as i've seen the downloadable link myself firsthand!!!
but to answer the OP's question.....
that's for you to decide if you want to play it or not. I personally wouldn't play, as it was already pointed out, it's way too short for it to be really enjoyable (as it ends just as it was beginning to be good)
