But I agree that new one somewhat ruins atmosphere.
BTW it's not duct-taped to weapon, its mounted on armor from the left side. You can see that in the mirror on one of the earliest levels.
The funny thing is that at Doom 3 release everybody was complaining about flashlight and Duct Tape was number one mod, so I see why they have done it. John Carmack, I think, after a while saying something like "Doom 3 would be better if you could actually see what is going on" after all the players feedback.
But looks like people came to accept and like this mechanic now, so developers are late with this change for few years.
But at least it would be nice to have the option to switch through the original dark doom 3 brightness and the BFG edition. The same should be for the flashlight.
I played the XBox Original in my living room and never had a problem with brightness. It's dark, yes, but it is supposed to be! I never understood the BFG edition's designers insistence on making the game brighter... talk about fixing a nonexistent problem... and then they made their misguided changes non-optional. Bleh.
Support for 3D & 120 Hz. I played it using Nvidia's 3D Vision. Crosshair changes to laser sight in this mode. Also the engine now runs at 120 Hz which results in smoother animations/gameplay.
Light sources were added, game looks brighter.
PDA in redesigned for widescreen.
Texture compression format was changed, though textures are in the same resolution.
