I have same problem. I have my tv connected to my laptop but the game has very small window, not only that but it apparently no longer allows me to switch to my tv now, since it constant changes the resolution back to 720p on monitor 1(laptop screen) and i can only get it back to my tv if i disable fullscreen.. And even if i managed to make it go to my tv and turn on full screen the game's window will be very small.

Try to put this on your exe target or steam launch options -set r_fullscreen -1
I also play this on laptop and my game wouldn't even launch before this.

Most common problem is that Doom 3(original/BFG) fails to run in fullscreen when display can't handle 60 Hz video mode, happens with many old TVs. There are several ways to solve it including aforementioned r_fullscreen -1.

That's not the problem since i have a LG oled tv with maximum 120hz support and still have the small window issue.

Is your TV's DPI set to 100% or to higher value? Set to 100% if it's not.

My laptop screen is 144hz and yet I can't launch the game without the fullscreen -1 command.

Do you have 60 Hz or 120 Hz refresh rates available for your screen? If not Doom 3 BFG won't run even if screen can do higher.
Original Doom 3 can use only 60 Hz mode.

r_fullscreen -1 and all other solutions are about forcing game to run in borderless fullscreen windowed mode instead of exclusive fullscreen. Game engine will still run at either 60 or 120 fps.

120hz is set in game options, but I have limited my laptop to 60.

Same problem here: managed to run the game after the opengl errror with r_fullscreen -1 or 0, but cannot switch resolution. Instant crash.

Windows 10 i7 RTX 2070

You can set specific resolution right via command line arguments, see https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Doom_3:_BFG_Edition#Issues_fixed

But game always has to be on windowed in order to play , which s ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
My res is 1920x1080, 144hz. And this game refuses to launch if I don't use the fullscreen -1 command.

Besides r_fullscreen -1 also set width and height to your resolution, see the link above. r_windowHeight and r_windowWidth.

+set r_fullscreen -1 +set r_windowHeight "1080" +set r_windowWidth "1920" +set r_windowY "0" +set r_windowX "0"

with the Steam launcher options did the trick for me.

Thx MASTAN

DPI was set to 300%(automatically) setting it to 100 fixed the small window issue.

This game doens't like anything higher than 100% apparently.

Where to find DPI settings on laptop?
