Lore question probably spoilers
is the big coffin in the Primary Excavation Site the Doom Slayers coffin? or is it just a random coffin? i know that it was revealed that the doom slayer and doom guy are the same person in doom eternal was just wondering if the doom marine ties into the storyline via coming through this area?

AFAIK, the Doom Slayer is the same marine from the first two Doom games, and the end of the second game's additional episode basically has the Doom Marine staying in hell as a safeguard against further incursions. Wasn't the Doom Slayer's sarcophagus discovered in that base he had set up in Hell? Therefore, the coffin at the Primary Excavation Site can't be his. I've always assumed the coffin you find at the Primary Excavation Site was the coffin of a Martian that got killed during the demons' initial invasion, or one of the Martians that sacrificed themselves to create the Soul Cube.

i like to believe that this takes place shortly before doom slayer is taken out of his coffin but many people will argue that this was doomguy's first rodeo.
even if it was intended that way at some point im some even id software would retcon it given the chance.
tldr - yes

I disagree. According to the wiki, the Doom Slayer is the same guy who you play in Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 64. It also says that his sarcophagus was found by a UAC expedition to Kadingir Sanctum. Since the Primary Excavation site is still on Mars, not Hell, that coffin you find there can't be him.

It is all linked with sarcophagus and being the same guy throughout the series. The new levels in Doom 64 tie in with Doom Eternal saying the Doom marine stayed in hell to keep battling demons. He was ultimately tricked by demons and trapped in sarcophagus before Doom 2016. Samuel Hayden found it and brought him to UAC, waiting to release him in the event demons got of control.

i dont think doom marine and doom guy are the same person if thats what youre saying, maybe i misread/misinterpreted what you wrote.

i don't see anything pertaining to doom 3 in that article [bear in mind i skim read so i may have over looked it] but i always considered doom 1/2/64/2016/eternal to be "Doom Guy/Slayer" and Doom 3 to be "Doom Marine" i.e. not the same person. I was always under the impression that Doom 3 is a re-imagining, not a reboot/continuation, therefore its not necessarily canon.

That is true in that Doom 3 is a re-imaging and non canon. That might be the one game where it is a different person. All the others, including reboots, seem to skip that one which I wish was not true because I really liked it and wish it was expanded upon.

3 is personally my favorite of all time, doesn't mean i dont like the "main-line" series, in fact i love them just as much. but 3 really hits home for me, and I don't understand how there are people out there that don't like it.
