Increase/Decrease Screen Size in Doom 1/2
I still own both games originally from their release date and remember that Doom 1 and Doom 2 hat the possibility to increase/reduce the screen size for to adapt the performance to the computers, but this option also allowed players to play full screen without the status bar displayed at the bottom. None of the formerly keys are working now. Also no F-Keys work for quicksave/quickload. Only changing weapons, movement keys, the map and the mouse works.

For some reason the old keys that increased/decreased the rendered screen size only work for zooming when the map is opened up with tab key.

Did they remove the ability of both games to use quicksaves and increase the screen size so the status bar disappears or am i missing something?

Ahem : https://www.moddb.com/mods/classic-rbdoom-3-bfg-edition
Options -> video settings -> aspect ratio

Thx for the reply, tried that but at the second i try to change the aspect ratio the whole thing crashes to desktop.

My problem is basically not even to change the resolution or something, it´s simply to enlarge the screen so the status bar at the bottom disappears (for funny issues when you watch the background-running map demos while being in the menu already shows the enlarged screen without the status bar). Feels a bit weird that none of the formerly known keys seem to work.

Weird It usually doesn't crash, try it again it might happen only the first time.

If you remove the status bar then how you will get stats like health ?
In case you don't know there is no alternative HUD on Doom 1/2 (maybe gzdoom and relatives have)

As i said, it was a normal game option to increase and shrink the size of the rendered area (from stamp size for really poor machines up to fullscreen) and i just liked it. If i felt low on health i always could shrink the window for a second to get a view on the status bar and then expand it again. I played original Doom 1 when it came out, so i know it had that function.

I tested it again but still, freeze. Maybe the actual version from february has a problem, when i have time later i could try out an older release version.

But still i don´t understand why they removed that feature. I also remember that - i think with F5 - you could change the overall render resolution to a lower one - that feature is also not working. F1 not working, quicksaves not working - as if the keybindings did not get set.

I checked all folders, but can only find config-files for doom 3, nothing for doom 1/2.

A. Make sure you change the aspect AFTER you have loaded a level. (It is a little weird on that tbh)
B. The F keys work with the port as long as you don't have a controller connected
C. You dont want to mess with the detail :gman:
D. I can make the status bar to go but not to lower further resolution

Works now, resolution is a bit weird as it uses full screen weight but not high (black borders on top and bottom for 16:10 resolution 1680x1050), Monitor says that game is using 1280x960 resolution. Still no chance to get rid of of the status bar, the described keys only change the aspect ratio.

I will change them with the next release. P.S. The resolution is normal for aspect ratio correction (it always uses static resolution and it must be multiple of the original)
