Why it shouldn't? Even through I would probaply suggest you my mod. But yeah GZDoom as far as I know is safe.

Was it downloaded from zdoom.org? If so, yes it is safe.
Version 3.5.0 did have some analytics code, but the results were anonymized and the code was since removed at the completion of a survey.

yeah it's save.
I use Zandronum for Brutal Doom. The wad's I pulled from Doom 3 BFG also.

Zandronum is based on an old version of GZDoom by the way.
