Realistic-ish Doom 3 BFG mod
Just in case you did not see my post on Reddit, I will share with you my own mod that focuses on making every weapon more effective, dangerous and accurate.


Please, let me know if this mod could be improved, since I'm open tu suggestions, and of course, I want it to be as good as possible.

The damage seems overkill even on Nightmare. 3 bullets with P90 against Imp? One pistol shot against the Wraith?

This would make sense when we had more demons spawning, so an entire horde coming for us. But with the few enemies in D3, it's pointless I think.

Minor fixes like the Shotgun spread and maybe increased damage. Chaingun clip size at least 120. Rocket launcher increased damage. Expecially BFG vastly increased damage since in Doom 2016 it eradicates any and all demons with one shot. And a proper small crosshair would fix the entire damn gameplay already.

Yeah. Maybe I make the demons tolerate shots to the body and make them vulnerable only when shot to the head.

Even though, it's a realistic-ish mod, so gameplay is going to be entirely different, whatsoever.

I was looking around already for how to control the damage zones. But I couldn't find anything so far. Obviously this is quite great for skill based gameplay, since it hugly encourages headshots. Makes the shotgun also a bit less overpowered.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to make the mod better. The damage taken/received has been drastically increased, so it's not like the player will kill everything without being in danger in the whole process.

Yes, Nightmare is still difficult because I can get insta killed by anybody.

Damage zones won't fix the pistol though. An Imp can be one shotted with one pistol bullet to the head. Which is fine I guess, but the pistol also got a high fire rate WITHOUT decreasing the accuracy. So, maybe just make the pistol fire rate very slow. For rapid fire we got the P90 anyways.

Regarding realism though. The brass/shell eject is quite short. You should change the Fuse time from 4 to 60. So that they stay for a minute instead of only 4 seconds. You can find some Fuse variables in weapon_shotgun.def under entityDef debris_shotgunbrass. And in debris.def under entityDef debris_brass.

I've fixed the shells disappearing too quickly and also made some suggested changes to the Pistol and its firerate.

I still have to find a way to make the projectile pushforce as good as possible, since it's ridiculous right now... Do you know how it works? I've tried lowering the "push" and "mass" values without success.

I don't know. Sometimes I'm under the impression that the game doesn't always accept new values. I can't seem to change the health for Pinky demon either it seems.

Well now Classic RBDoom 3 BFG[github.com] supports game dll if you want to extend the mod even further.

Yep, I just could reproduce this problem.

I changed pistol clip size to 7 from 12. However, when I loaded a save game, and EVERY time I reloaded the pistol, it kept giving me 12 and not 7. I could fix this by switching weapons. When switched back to pistol, it would even cap to 7 automatically without having to reload. But heck, this kind of crap is just annoying. Some game play code. -.-

I see that you decreased the walk speed to 140. I just tested 100. Wow, even with 100 you can easily dodge Imp's fire ball in un-modded Doom. No words... :/
