Damned if I do, Damned if I don't? (vsync issue)

Been searching google and the Steam forums for a while now for a solution to my problem but nothing has helped me. When I have vsync on in game or through the catalyst control panel, there is a half-second of lag which is unbearably noticeable. When I turn vsync off, obviously, the screen tearing is too distracting. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to fix this issue, or is this game just a lazy console port turd?

In \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\DOOM 3 BFG Edition\base\ folder create autoexec.cfg file and add

set m_smooth "0"

See if that helps...

The lag is a result of using vsync:

You can maunaly set the FPS to your monitor refresh rate. This may cause issue with the game though:

Go to the configuration file(s) location.
Create and open autoexec.cfg.
Add set com_engineHz "144" or to whatever your monitor refresh rate is..

Try using triple buffering or adaptive vsync in your video cards settings and turn it off in game.

Chaingun firing rate depends on frame count. 60 and 120 are the only proper frequencies for the game.

I run the game with these settings, and it's pretty smooth for me. I have a mid-to-low-end PC:
