Botanicula Questions
1. Is Botanicula identical on all platforms? It appears all the achievements are tied to getting creature cards and finishing the story, but it seems the PC version lacks the achievements for levels 7 & 8, and that what creature cards give achievements differ between the PC and Mobile versions. (Also, the GOG version might lack achievements, but I don't know if they add anything.)

2. Does Botanicula possess any promotional or limited time content, or any bonuses for owning a different game?

3. Is anything permanently missable in Botanicula? The kind of stuff that I can't go back for (like some audio logs in Marvel's Spider-Man for the PS4), or challenges I can't do over if I fail too many times (like the Golden fist and golden heart icons in Paper Mario: The Origami King, that are rewarded for beating the game without getting a game over or using a battle item).

I’m just a fan and not one of the developers, but I think I can answer most of these. :)

1. As far as gameplay content (e.g. cutscenes, screens, etc.), I believe it’s exactly the same on all platforms, yes.

On iOS and iPadOS (can’t say for certain about Android, but I assume it’s the same as iOS and iPadOS, so will just refer to them all simply as “mobile” from here on out) there are 55 total achievements, whereas on Mac/Windows (will just refer to both as “PC” from here on out) there are only 53. I’m not sure which two are missing from the PC version, but will edit the post if I can find that out. :)

A few other points to (hopefully) answer your other questions for 1:

  • Interestingly, the mobile version has the game split up into “parts”, while the PC version has it split up into “levels”.
  • The mobile version has 9 parts, while the PC version has 6 levels…not sure exactly where in the game those match up or overlap…will edit and add that too once I know for certain.
  • The mobile achievements are either Story achievements, or Creature Card achievements, and are listed in whatever language version you’d purchased.
  • The PC achievements are either for finishing levels or gathering cards for creatures, with one achievement for collecting the complete tree mythology, and the names of all achievements for the creature cards are listed as Czech words, with the rest being in whatever language version you purchased.
  • The PC version does sort of have achievements for completing parts 7 and 8 like in the mobile version, but since there are only 6 levels, they’re listed as “Mesto” and “Zlo C” for the mobile parts 7 and 8, respectively.
  • The PC version has six save (and load) slots that can be overwritten, and there are no autosaves, while the mobile version only has autosave slots that get created once you’ve reached the beginning of any given part, and there isn’t any way to manually save the game.
  • I’m not sure if the GOG version has achievements. Will try to find out.
  • At the very end of the game on both mobile and PC, following a cutscene, the number of Creature Cards you’ve collected will be shown in-game, with the highest possible total being 123 cards. You’ll then receive up to 3 gifts depending on how many cards you’d collected, with the breakdown being for PC:

    Level 1: 11 cards
    Level 2: 24 cards
    Level 3: 21 cards
    Level 4: 28 cards
    Level 5: 34 cards
    Level 6: 5 cards
    total: 123 cards

(Can’t say for certain what the exact breakdown is for each of the 9 parts in the mobile version, but I’ll edit and add it if I can find that out.)

And for both PC and mobile, it takes:
0-90 cards to receive one gift
91-114 cards to receive two gifts
115-123 cards to receive all three gifts

2. Well, if I understand your question correctly, there isn’t any added or extra gameplay that can only be accessed either through a limited-time promotion or having owned other Amanita Design games.

3. There are no challenges you can’t do over because you’d failed too many times, nope. However, if you miss a given Creature Card, while you can go back and get it by loading an earlier save, I believe you’d have to then replay the rest of the game from that point until you complete the entire game in order to have it count towards the total number of cards that show up in the gift cutscene at the end of the game—I don’t believe you can pick up an earlier card and then simply load back to where you’d been before and have it count, in other words...though I may be 100% wrong about that.

*Just a heads-up that I may be editing the post occasionally over the next day or so to add or change things. :)

Thank you! For clarification, I meant the stuff that appears in-game.

You’re welcome! I kind of enjoy answering questions like these. :)
Ah, okay…I get you that you only meant stuff appearing in-game.

Oh, I did check the achievements, and it seems there isn't much overlap between the Creature Card achievements.
