Xbox 360 Controller & Windows 8 - FIX

Salut,
J'ai trouvé cette astuce sur le forum du jeu. C'est un problème de version de DLL.
D'abord il vous faut télécharger la DDL "dinput8.dll" -> par exemple ici http://www.fichier-dll.fr/dinput8.dll,724
Ensuite vous devez la placer dans le fichier du jeu. -> dans mon cas "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Walking Dead"
Pour moi ça a suffit mais j'ai vu que certains conseillaient de relancer l'installation de DirectX aussi, qui peut se faire en lançant DXSETUP.exe ici "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Walking Dead\DirectX"

I found on the telltalegames forum this fix. It's a DLL version issue.
First, you have to download "dinput8.dll" -> can be found here : http://www.fichier-dll.fr/dinput8.dll,724
(for non french user you just have to clik on le big blue button "Télécharger", means download in french)
/!\ be careful I don't know if this DLL is localised so if that doesn't work try to find the DLL on an other website in your language.
Then put it on the game folder -> in my case "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Walking Dead"
This just works fine for me but some says that you have also to refresh your DirectX installation, run DXSETUP.exe here"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Walking Dead\DirectX".

win 7 works just fine. Don't upgrade to the newest version of anything just because the hype. Specially system level stuff such as hardware and operating systems.

Maybe, maybe not, that's not important.

The fact is, some already have Windows 8 and there is an issue with the 360 controllers.
I'm one of them, I've found a solution and I share it here, that's all.

found fix....for the game not booting with xbox controller pluged in. really easy! took some googling.

-download the file.
-find your walking dead folder in steam apps inside folder
-drag the dinput8.dll file into the folder like where the launch game icon is

It's not safe to download random DLL files from Internet (much like EXE files) as they could contain malware. I'm not saying the files posted here do, but it's really not an IT Security best practice to do that.

Telltale should patch their game or, at the very least, provide a replacement file that they can responsibility for.

You are correct, however Win8 is basically a further optimised, further developed and further polished version of win7. start menu/screen changes aside (which you can pretty much ignore if you don't like).

This is the only compatibility problem i've seen in 6 months of using win8 at home and at work - and it seems to be telltale's problem (statically linking to something they shouldn't, not sure) rather than a windows issue. everything else has been flawless.

I feel the need to say this as there seems to be a lot of unjustified hate about thnigs about win8 that aren't true. ofc if you already have win7 working fine on your pc then its probably not worth upgrading to win8 just for the fun of it. but if you're getting a new pc, win8 is good :)

shivars is completely right. All of the critics against W8 are about people bothered by change (full screen start menu in W8 vs just a menu in W7). The rest is W7 only better.

I just wanted to give you both a big thumbs up for locating the file. For anyone else who stumbles onto this thread it's legit and free of malware/virus. This game was meant to be played on a controller and Windows 8 users shouldn't suffer due to TellTales lack of enthus for customer support. In regards to the off topic win 7/win 8 discussion. Regardless of what you win 7'ers may think except for this one isolated incedent with TellTale games. Windows 8 is by far superior in every way imaginable. I have written guides for both across the net and here on Steam. The customization tools available to the Windows 8 user win hands down. Anyway Thanks again. Alwayas good to see the Steam community helping each other insted of wasting time on useful threads bickering ;)
