How much of the Walking Dead should I watch before I play?

The Walking Dead game takes place in the comic book universe, but you don't need to read the comic book to get into the game. It's a completely seperate story.

And since it is connected to the comic, there are also references to it as well like how Hershal's son died and what Glen was up to before he met up with Rick in the comics. There are also other references in later episodes to the comic but like what most are saying it's more of a seperate story from the comics and have nothing to do with the show anymore.

I never watched The Walking Dead or read the comic books, so this game was the very first experience with The Walking Dead, and it was a huge, great experience. c:
