How similar is the game to the show?

I know this has probably been asked a million times, but how similar is this game to the show, just out of curiousity? I know they're both based on the comic books, but are they based on different walking dead comic books or what?

The video game is self-contained, and contains the appearance of only a few characters from the source material.

A related question, but would someone who loved the game be as interested in the show? How about the graphic novel?

Different characters and different story, but they share the same "moral choices" all the time, and the constant "group fighting/discrepancies". Personally I like the game MUCH more than the tv show, I really only liked Rick from the tv show, all the whining/complaining and moral decisions started to get old fast, it works well in the game for the most part though.

The game exists in the same universe as the comicbooks and the show is a parallel universe.
Personly, I started reading the comics after the second episode of the show(first season), I must say that i started to hate the show because of how slow and unrealistic it felt(the realtionships the group had) compared to the comics. The game, which shares the same universe, was way more true to the comic and felt way more realistic and you really cared for lee and the other survivors.
If you only played the game, i would recomend the comics. It has the same "feel" about them.

Farily similar in regards to what is happening around the city, but follows a completely different main character. There are some appearances of characters from the comic, but very few.
Just like watching another season of The walking dead on TV though :)

No. The show has similarities to the comic but it is a completely different animal. Meryl and Daryl don't exist in the comic for starters. Certain characters that are dead in one of them may not be in the other and they just tell two very different stories.

The game however is set in the same universe as the comic and not the TV show. Survival Instict however is a prequel to the show but that game is so awful it's almost sad.
