Walking dead zombies are magical zombies

In zombie fiction, you can have zombies that are realistic in a sense. A "zombie" can be a person who is infected with some sort of virus that makes them homicidal and stupid and possibly even somehow keeps the body alive when it is badly injured and would normally have died.

The zombies from this game, though, are magical zombies. They are magically animated corpses which don't follow any of the normal physical laws of nature.

In order to actually follow the laws of nature, a zombie would have to have a functioning brain, heart, and lungs, and perhaps a digestive system. The zombie muscles wouldn't work unless they were getting sugar and oxygen from the blood. This means that a zombie could be killed by destroying its heart, or even drowning it. A zombie would also starve to death eventually.

The walking dead zombies (at least, those from the game) can live locked in a building for months with no food or water. They can also live when they're just a severed head in a bag. This means that they're magically animated, and don't need to follow any sensible rules whatsoever, other than whatever the rules of magic might be.

The infection re-animates the brain's motor system and uses the host as a means to spread the infection. Though I do think that it is quite strange that they survive with just their head, snakes are able to the same. I remember seeing a youtube video where the snakes head was lobbed off but was still functional, it even bit it's own tail. The freaky part though is the tail reacted by jerking away without the brain telling it that it's being bit. Muscle memory maybe? I don't really know :P Also who's to say they don't eat each other? I mean I don't think they do but then again hunger has urged those engulfed by it to eat whatever is available.

I dunno about the comics, but in the actual series the Governer's scientist (his name escapes me) states that the zombies are, in fact, starving to death, albeit slowly. Indicating that there are biological functions at work.

LOL! I was on the DayZ forum the other day and someone referred to the game as a 'zombie simulator'

Thats all they need to be undead zombies, is there brain is working only.
