Serious continuity error or bug in Walking Dead Season 1 Episode 2 (SPOILERS!!!)

Don't know if anyone else had this bug or not.

I saved Carly instead of Doug in Episode 1, "A New Day", but in Episode 2, "Starved for Food", Doug is still alive and hanging out at the hotel.

Its like the game ignored my decision and just brought the character of Doug back to life.

I rewinded a little before finishing Episode 1, but didn't rewind enough to change that decision which I made to save Carly.

I wrote TellTale but they haven't responded.

It was probably a failure in reading your previous save since Doug is the Default save choice.

I agree its an error with the saved game.

I noticed that my saved game says "Episode 1" even though I'm now on Episode 2.

Is it possible that it never updated my saved game?

What would I do to fix this?

This problem can be related to:
1) Errors in file system on your drive;
2) Insufficient access rights for this game (so that it doesn't have write access to saves folder);
3) Bad symbols in your Windows profile name;

It is hard to say what exactly happens. Please share the report of TWD Support Tool.

P.S. Try to disable steam cloud for TWD, rename (or remove) the TWD saves folder and try to play again.

Thank you groundhog, but I will only run diagnostic tools as a last resort.

I've never had any trouble with any game I've ever played when it comes to saved games, and it saved my game fine up till now for Walking Dead, so i don't know if you're right.

I tried rewinding it back to episode 1, and playing onwards into episode 2.

When episode 2 started, it jumped ahead to chapter 2, instead of starting episode 2 from the beginning, so the rewinding didn't have any effect at all.

Seems to me the problem is the transition between episodes.

TWD PC Official Support Tool doesn't changes anything. It is only gathering information and without it impossible to help you.

The problem is your save files are broken. And the game syncs broken files in Steam Cloud with your current save files. Did you try to rename the TWD saves folder? Did you try to disable steam cloud for TWD?

Good idea, I'll try that. Maybe the syncing is what is screwing it up.

That seems to have solved the problem.

I copied my saved game, deleted the old one, turned off syncing, and started in off-line mode, that seems to have brought Carly back to life and killed Doug :)

Even though I'm on Episode 2, my saved game still says Episode 1. I'm concerned the bug has not been totally fixed.

Also, the character Mark appears at the beginning of Episode 2, but I don't remember him from Episode 1. Could this also be a continuity bug?

1) Try to play, let's see...

2) Mark didn't appear in episod 1. He first appears in the first season, episode 2. It is ok. It is weak point of scenario.

UPDATE:

The game is doing some odd things.

If you start the game, it will only let you load episode 1, which then forwards automatically to episode 2 without any option to rewind, and just resumes from where you played last.

But if you then hit ESC and EXIT, then hit PLAY, suddenly 2 new saved games are available, which both say Episode 2 instead, and these do have the option to rewind.

I guess I can live with this, but its very buggy, and have no clue what will happen once I get to episode 3. :)

Very interesting... I think that the root of evil is the Steam Cloud. I advice to disable Steam Cloud before playing this game.

Yes, i agree, it clearly did something that can't be reversed at this point.

The Steam cloud usually doesn't cause problems, but I think the REWIND feature combined with the cloud creates errors.

So long as I can play the game till the end, I guess it will be ok.
