So do shotguns suck?

Im trying to build smitherens shotty that crits when all shots hit

Yes, they all do for at least ammo stack and very wide spread reasons.
The ult ones do less dmg then the rare ones do.

The one with 100% crit rate if all hits land, it only does 1.1 crit dmg (10% more dmg on crits over base) and it's base dmg is half that of 2 rare ones and 1/3 of 1 rare one. So better off ignoring both ult's and just use the rares.

Some of the highest burst DPS comes from shotguns.

2million+ DPS to be more specific.

Smithers.
Rifle reinforce.
Action and Reaction
Real Life Fighter*
Shell up
Elemental Damage Mod.
Weakpoint sight
Better Concentration
Expanded weapon charge

And then for the last 2 you probably want:
Hawk eye
Hit rate focus (I think)

Accuracy is important to tighten up the reticle makes landing all pellets (shells) easier)

*Each pellet counts as a hit. Landing all pellets (shells) means 100% crit hit AND nets you all 10 stacks of real life fighter.

Super Importnat: When to use it.
When a colossus is kneeling and you can blast at super close range directly on the weak point.
Or a stunned/immobile boss. Apply directly to the head.

Nah, Doom and actually several FPS titles they are actually good. Borderlands, a looter shooter they are good in.

they suck in 98% of situations. when they don't suck, or at least when smithereens doesn't suck is on a downed colossus with large weak points. so for like a 10 second window in 1 specific part of the game.

In A Blink, this does a little more then double Smithereens dmg. For Smithereens to reach the same dmg with crit, it would need a 2.2 crit dmg at least. Smithereens is 8,900 per hit, In A Blink is 20,000 per hit.

Maybe I should use them more like a point blank sniper? Take out weakpoints etc. Hmmm wonder if you can one shot a weakpoint then grapple all in one action?

Yes, due to how WIDE the spread is, you have to effectively place it in the targets mouth to get the full effect.

the problem is the lack of ammo with shotguns and snipers. Its purple(rare) ammo and you cant loot it in an decent quantity. Even with mods that give you special ammo when you loot general ammo its just not good. Its a completely stupid idea to limit ammo and have ammo "rarity". One of many idiotic things in this game like not being able to paint defautl skins but hey, its nexon right?

I use it on my firearm Sharen infiltrator build. I put Strengthen First Shot in it so that by the time I come out of stealth, the Ambush skill passive procs and get another firearm boost or use skill 1 when there are enemy clusters. Peace out with 3rd skill(built skill range on mine) then enter camo again.

you need specific hero that give you free ammo, but most of time I just use white/grean ammo. purple for Hardest Enemy.
