See tamer as a....how to word this correctly "noob friendly powergun only good until you built others properly"
Shhhh we dont talk about Gley :P
tamer has crap base crit rate.
the issue is chasing the big number when you see the "dps" when looking at modules.
the REAL highest damage tamer build has a very low dps number ~250-350k compared to a higher dps tamer build that relies on crit (500k+)
the game doesn't factor in what your target is or what you're hitting. for example if it assumed you're only hitting weak points the dps number on a weak point build would be far more, especially considering how much damage you do once the hardpoints are gone on a boss.
don't chase their ingame numbers, they're just misleading.
you have to calculate on your own the value of each shot based on what you're shooting. so a high "dps" number on something without good sustain is pointless when you're at 0 dps for 99% of the time because you have no ammo.
you can confirm this by rerolling the base on a weapon and seeing what the dps score does and does not take into account, best example is +ELEMENT attacks. they're all the same, but the bosses resists aren't. so your big number is meaningless if you have the wrong element
tldr: dps number on mod screen is useless, tamer damage isn't the highest for all activities regardless of number, on bosses highest tamer builds are weakpoint not crit even though crit gives highest dps score.
for example hand cannons built for immune phases massively outdamage any other option considering sustain where a sniper rifle massively outdamages everything due to high base crit, but if you miss shots you're just out of ammo doing nothing
i do feel like some weapons are more handy and better at certain moments
while others are just trash anywhere else
Tamer is one of those that i can just slap on a few mods and am good to go for most content early game
another gun that felt similar would be the minigun style LMG, Lion smth, forgot the name
But some are just awful and need a buff to something.
Handguns, literally have the lowest stats in everything.
Beam Rifles, range is so short not even worth it.
High-Impact, until you get an ammo converter module or some other gimmick to make more ammo, don't bother.
