Damn, that is some next level paradox to have "high skill play" and "lost" in same sentence.
You are playing looter & shooter game where grinding better gear to win the next fight or farm a mission few seconds faster is the whole game. This is never-ending hamster wheel of grind better gear, kill more stuff, get better gear and kill more stuff faster.
There is definitely skill involved in playing the game but fighting bosses is not as skill-intensive as you are making it sound. You need to have general awareness of your surroundings, understand the fight (which comes with experience and playing it a few times) but most importantly to have appropriate level of gear and hit the right targets. A lot of damage in these fights is unavoidable but you were given expected resistance value in advance.
Do I think timers are fun? No. Are timers completely ruining the game? No, not at all. It is just another mechanic that can tell you are not ready for a fight, same as limited death counts/revives. I do not see people getting mad about death counts, which is similar mechanic to timer. It places same restrictions on your play by which you need to abide or fail the fight.
thats using your own rationale.
Im just saying that Modding is a skill, proven by Warframe, its a skill to make good builds with Mods, as it is with this game. I admit, a lot of ♥♥♥♥ is too easy if you are just moderately geared in this game, which Hard mode fixes somewhat, but I hope difficulty does spike eventually with new releases.
I just think the timers are perfectly fine, because they add additional emeents to the fight. although they should ahve done some kind of special rage form for the timer ending imo, instead of just 'failure'.
90% of MH is 50 minute hunts, with some 35 minute hunts. 10 minute hunts are annoying as hell as well. But the monsters don't randomly become INVULNERABLE or HEAL UP TO FULL HP because of garbage mechanic design. Not to mention the battles are actually FUN.
I see what you're trying to get at, but you're barking up the wrong tree with this one.
There was only one actual one shot build, and the amount of set up it took was insane. You needed multiple buffs, to be at low health, have a red tearstone ring on, a dragon body, use the roar, have a ton of strength, enough time and space to use the axe's special ability, etc.
Ok, I'm not talking about just the 1st one but over all games.. and Yeah.. most played build in DS1 is Giant Dad, you know.... which is a Great Hammer and Dark Knight Armor...
and trying to flex hours is laughable.
But DS2 and 3 Magic and Greatswords were most used, and did hella dmg. Elden Ring magic is just ez mode and 5 hit Greatswords on bosses is not hard to achieve either.
Wrong. Research missions in World and Rise had 10 minute hunts with 1 faint, or 2 hunters max.
Prove it. Show me this hunt in MHW.
Its not a skill check, its a dps check and Energy Activators happens to be for sale in the store.
Its how you do p2w in a PVE game.
You can also get past dps check with gley + vestigial organ, no activator needed.
I beat every colossus by just standing in front of the ammo dispenser and just holding LMB. There is absolutely no skill required for colossi, only DPS. Not enough DPS = not beating the colossi. No matter how good you are, if your DPS is not enough, you will not win thanks to the timer. The best player in the world will lose.
The worst player in the world will win if his weapon has the DPS.
Stop claiming skill is the issue, it is just not. This game requires very little skill. The colossi timer actively hinders skilled gameplay. Without it, people could do challenge runs, like with a lvl 1 weapon, no modules for example. With the timer, its just not possible.
Imagine Elden RIng with boss timers. RIP challenge runs....
