Hand Cannons, on the other hand, absolutely wreck with crit, weakpoint, and elemental.
Put even one socket adapter on an Assassin's Edge and you might have a new favorite gun.
New Beginning, then for mods add Maxed Expanded General Magazine, General Rounds compulsive, and Normal Imp[act/Special Rounds Refining. That's it.
And if you like more, just slot in all the bread and butter mods to cake up the gun. And now it's good to go. by theory some of the downsides of the -20$ movement speed is counter acted by the hand gun archetype so have at it.

ive used quite a bit of pistols and those are fun to use. you run faster with a pistol vs an SMG.
i plan on building one soon because they are tons of fun running 90mph with viessa

just weird how there are so many guns just taking up space , they even made skins for guns that are bad options ...
so in this case using a handgun over and smg or machinegun/assault is ludicrous when you do a damage comparison or fall off range etc ..
but i am all for a total overhaul on guns so i can have actual competitive options and not have to use a tamer or cage .
i personally like handguns if other guns were not so much better at everything it does at short range.
Pretty much anything you sink 6+ catalysts and an activator into is gonna perform decently at least.
Would I recommend doing that? Hell, no.
Range has to be the most underestimated stat in this game.
When you stand at the terminal in the lab and shoot at spawned enemies with a handgun you've already lost 70% of your damage.
Meanwhile the falloff of LMGs and (some) rifles just about starts at that point.
