Looks like it's not popular in America. Online in steam during day time in Europe is always 10-13k.
Well, in case it wasn't obvious, I was joking. However, back in September and October the devs mentioned that console players made up 75% of the player base. Later, during the Season 2 livestream, they let it slip that the player base is actually split 50/50 between PC and console players.
Imho they will never be honest about the true number of console players for marketing reasons, after all, even snoy is too fragile to be transparent about what their players are playing in real-time. God bless Steam for that level of openness!
In random matchmaking it feels like console players are at least 50% of all players. Many times i was the only steam player.
Peak online 12-14k, average daily 10k+, low online during these hours. It was like that for months already. Looks like people who post about "dead game" believe that Earth is flat, and it's the same time on all continents.
Get help.
This third party data, so take it with a grain of salt.
As others have said, the console player base makes up a huge amount of players, at least half.
The game's been out for 6 months and is still receiving updates, with new characters being released, more story being added, and events taking place. The devs regularly communicate with us via announcements and dev streams, and there are regular bug fixes, tweaks, and shop updates. As far as my concerns as a player, everything seems peachy keen.
The game got 10m+ at launch. It takes an estimated 38 hours to complete the story and the like, with about 130 hours to 100% the game. Most people either checked it out and stopped playing, or played and finished the game, and moved on.
The hardcore player base and the players who hop on now and then or are taking their time + new players seems good enough to maintain the game's development and server cost.
And seeing how, based on Steam's own data, they hit Gold rank in less than 6 months, I don't believe TFD is hurting in any way, shape, or form.
Unlike Suicide Squad, who's servers I guessing will be shutdown by year's end, the game should be around for many years to come.
Kinda like Paladins your favorite game
