External Component Sets
Does anyone actually use any of the External Component sets? Sets like Slayer, Supernova, Swamp Recon, etc. My problem with them is that individually, the components aren't very good. As a set, some of the bonuses seem worth it, but I'd like to know what others do.

Yes and No

It just depends on what I'm doing and which build

Slayer set for most of skill power build.

Yeah, usually just a pair. Because some of the full sets have bad combos or just things I don't care about on some of them. So pick two for the first bonus, electric and chill boost.

Slayer set unless you want to play tank role. Than there is much better option. I have basically two builds - Slayer set that I am trying to improve when nothing else to do in game) and equipment, focused on HP stats.

Slayer if you run Power as your main damage
Annihilation for Gley and if you want to squeeze more Duration in
Hungry Sonic for Luna
Frozen Heart for Yujin
Invader best for Ajax, Kyle, and Shield build if you want to squeeze extra Shield in, gives most HP of all set
Distorted Set best for Shield Freyna and Shield Build if you want to be more tanky against Colossus, gives most HP of all set
If you aren't any of the above use Generic or Mixed Set with HP/DEF.

Slayer is damn near mandatory for ability builds (bossing especially).
To the point where I think it's becoming a problem.

Everything else is much more situational.

+ 2 pieces of Supernova set are usable for Bunny :t0cactuar:

Not quite.

Not using is a massive damage loss to ability builds.
For example on Hailey if you're not using it just to get 12k-ish HP (which still makes you squishy) you might as well go for gun build and full on 23k+ shield tank build.

Using it does make you squishy but not using it does not really make the extra HP worth the massive damage loss.

Ideally there would be another set somewhere in the middle, but there isn't.

Well if you play Hailey 400 missions with team, +15% skill cost is a massive debuff in a change of 20% damage, on top of squishiness.

When I play Hailey in 400% missions I'm following the inevitable 2-3 Bunnies/Freynas through the missions, taking in the scenery and then blow up bosses at the end.

I don't even bother switching builds for those. I don't think I've gone down once even with 8k HP.

Also, it's not just 26% damage. It's a rare base multiplier which then gets multiplied. That's what makes it so good. The type of multiplier it is in addition to the number.

Depends on playstyle i guess, i do running and gunning style on Hailey :t0cactuar:

Iam using Thunder Cage for mobs while i have crit buff from her frozen arss skill, occasionally switching to Frost Watcher to remove moving speed debuff.:ebonyivory:

And when it comes to elites they usually die in 1 shot of Storm Snare.
Also i have some skill cooldown mods to use Zennith at will when i need it :mhwgood:

Look, 400% dungeons or all mobbing content is irrelevant to this discussion. Use whatever you want. I also just use Thunder Cage, that's all you really need.

Also, I'm just using one CD mod because I can onephase both 400% bosses in one Zenith use. Meaning they go into immune phase by the end of which I have Zenith up again anyway.

But the entire point of a bossing build is to nuke high HP bar really fast. That is even when playing with others.

And Slayer set bonus is a big deal. Do not try to underplay it. The math is wonky but it's there. It's a base multiplier.

Lets say you have 20% chill power bonus and the slayer set.
That is not 100 * 1.46 = 146
It's instead 100 * 1.26 * 1.20 = 151.2
And this goes up as you add multipliers (tech power for example).

They Slayer is a massive damage boost and it's not even close to other sets. Not even it the same ballpark.

For solo nuke the boss yep its Slayer, i said that :sunekosuri:
But for a team u need 2 more glass cannons to do it in short reasonable time.
