Weird massive difficulty spike
I unlocked White-night Gulch through missions, like every other zone, i am lvl 38 and have lvl 54 gear, i assume its the usual, i always equip the strongest options and up until now it wasnt a problem, except for the Dead Bride colossus, but i play Viessa and that one has apparently a reputation anyway.

Well, White-night Gulch is killing me. I dont have enough damage to deal with the masses and i literally lose my shield if i show my face, which isnt good when i have to defend stuff. I dont really understand whats happening, but i cant progress further solo. What can i do now? I dont really get any higher tier weapons and the last two levels would probably not make a dent as well.

Equip mods that give hp/def. They are calculated from base values, so you should have good components. Hp/def main stat. Hp substat for auxiliary power and DEF substat for memory.

Shields are the worst form of defence unless you are Kyle, maybe Enzo
As i remember when first time playing wng, there is a mission to activate 4 consoles and kill enemies. But there are just SO MANY enemies. Further into the game it won't be that hard. Don't forget your hp mods

This is the game telling you that auto-equipping mods and components is no longer good enough to progress. You need a cohesive build and to farm a couple upgrades for modules.

Oh, that is interesting. I have been stacking shield mostly, i will certainly try def and hp now.

Weird place to do that tbh, i highly assumed that at least the general main quest will stay casual and when finished i would need to to focus on a real build.

I was, sadly there was no one around at the time, but i finished a part of the zone now by following two lvl 40 bunnies who one-shot everything.

White-night Gulch was pretty much telling me to get out thundercage just to deal with the sheer number of spawns! It's pretty much the area that tells you AOE is king! If the game hadn't already hinted enough by that time
Medicles Aug 6, 2024 @ 10:53am
Thundercage, eh? I guess its time i use some ressources on that as well.

shields are pretty much useless in TFD until they do something like warframe did and give shields their own damage reduction charge speed even if it is in mods choice or even better give us a brief immunity to dmg after shield break that will only proc again after its fully charged

Thats really good to know, especially since i am still in the early game. So any shield upgrade is pretty much worthless then?

Unless you are playing a class that scales other stuff off your shield value, then yes.

Good, good, good.

You really only 'need' 5 mods to survive everything the game throws at you.

On your descendant have a max hp and a max def mod, keep them updated as you increase MR 10, then on your guns have 2 dmg mods, one blue one the purple one that increases recoil plus rof, keep them upto date with mastery rank and on your highest dps weapons, don't forget to update components (health then defence ideally and mp when it shows up on the sensor) and the reactor and you'll be good to get to hard mode, don't waste resources on resists or shields (unless you are on Kyle).

Get ready because the next two zones (Hagios and Agna Desert, particularly the latter) are really going to test both your survivability and damage.

I felt the difficulty spike with Agna Desert and had to go out of my way to grind some mods and level them up before proceeding; Even really good weapons like the base Tamer just weren't cutting it anymore with maxed Rifling Reinforcement mod alone.

So yes as others are saying, it's time to start investing in some mods.

Do you mean Fortress? I believe Agna Desert is one before Gulch. But yeah, i need to invest some resources for sure.
