What is the point of handguns?
So, playing the game for a while now and I can see the point in pretty much every weapon class in the game except one. Handguns. I only noticed this as I looted a pretty much god roll "New Beginning" and upon testing out the weapon vs pretty much every other weapon I just sat there thinking "What is the point of handguns?" Am I missing something, Do they have some niché that I am missing or are they just really weak for some reason? anyone know?

Also just a heads up I am talking about weapons in the Hangun class NOT HANDCANNONS!

-Thanks for reading!

Those handguns are for women!
Women can't handle real guns every one knows this.
So they added handguns to....you know to be woke!
All joking aside though... things seem pretty useless compared to the other general ammo weapons.

A built up one can be good, the sprint speed especially while aiming is nice, fast firing, fast reloading. The best thing is probably how fast you can move while aiming.

They move at 630 while SMGs run at 600, the 5% extra movement speed is not worth doing around half the damage.

Handguns are useful for making re-running low lvl content faster, and their underwhelming stats don't bring you down there.

Style.

You can also zip around quite easily with them, while most other weapons will slow you down while firing.

Handguns only exist to level up your MR, I bet.

Those numbers are not 'when aiming' that's just basic sprint speed with the weapon equipped/mounted.

For one thing it offers options. Just because one person may not like the style doesnt mean someone else wouldn't. Second of all, if its setup right, movement speed and damage can get pretty high. Is it OP BIS? No. Can it be usable and do decent damage, yes.

To be there. And rodents. Even the post apocalypse has rodents.

AFAIK, both SMGs and handguns have the same speed when moving, firing, and aiming.

There might be some guns that are different though. But most of the guns I look at have those 3 numbers the same.

Edit: I mean each gun has those 3 numbers the same. Not that it has the same number in all guns.

1. Handgun is put on leg, not back - more cool look
2. I use handgun as "restock" tool - it has mods for max ammo and convert ammo type

Handguns have better accuracy and almost 0 spread compared to the SMG counterpart. They're only better if you can hit headshots and weakpoints well.

Well, I do not see much need for handguns but it is not correct to compare them to hand cannons as those are different rounds.
One benefit of handguns is that your speed is not slowed down when aiming/shooting down the sights. This can work for some characters that rely on moving such as Bunny that triggers her AOE skill by moving certain distance. I would still not use handguns but I'm sure someone came with some interesting build for them as well.

I really wanted to like the final masterpiece. it looks so nice. with heavy investment u can do ok with it. It's just that you will do less then half the damage of other weapons. it isn't good for bossing. dungeons. large groups of enemies. Handguns in general don't have an area they do well in.

For preference I suppose. Not everyone is mid maxing and farming for mid max
