I don't care about the SMG, since you get a thunder cage for free.
if you dont mind that..go for it
i still use it in endgame stuff
If you mean "invest" as in upgrading the mods? Well that's standard based on the ammo type. You're going to put the general ammo rifling and action and reaction mods on them all as standard. Though hat's not investing in ONE gun though, that's investing in ALL gen ammo guns as they share the mods.
Not worth the hassles with a purple is less work and often has better DPS.
And by investing, I obviously mean things like spiral catalysts and such.
For assault rifles? Yeah it's a PITA I won't fault you there.
But "Investing" heavily in terms of catalysts into a purple or dumping energy activators on them is a waste of time and effort for what will be quickly outpaced and considered little more than mastery fodder save for MAYBE one or two outliers that have somewhat desirable aspects. In your defence, if a BETTER rolled version of the gun drops, it'll have the same activated status AND loadout in terms of mods. So there's THAT bonus to your approach.
But while they're fine for the interim. Sticking with them isn't all that viable long term. If you're not going for even the baseline versions of the ultimates that synergise with your descendant(s) such as divine punishment for buffers/healers, or that are overall good. Then you're gimping yourself in the short term because you don't want to... get an actual good gun with a relevant additional effect?
Thus far no ultimate has been nerfed to my knowledge. A few just got buffed in sizeable ways... the most powerful one just got an insane and baffling buff to its base crit chance even.
Though I will openly say, there is reports of changes to guns like thundercage that are hinting at stealth nerfs having occurred, that go outside the remit of the stated changes.
But thats just the 1.05 patch being overall, a giant f'n failure and obviously so.
