Descendant level or module level?
If I'm currently gated and undergeared, which is better to farm for, descendant levels or module levels?

Take little steps dont rush you will get there. As to what to level there are plenty of youtube videos out there. One thing you need to know is having too much defense and not enough HP is bad. Unless you are Ajax having more than 10k HP is good and the more you can get the better but also make sure to have at least 25k defense or more play around with external modules and descendant modules.

Modules probably. I think you'll go farther quicker if you put your Energy Activator the game gives you into a Tamer or something and just fully kit that out before messing around putting activators and stuff into your descendants. Even up to hard mode bosses, you can really easily just get away with some defensive modules and a utility module or two. Stack HP and DEF for most descendants in that order, and then just upgrade the hell out of your Tamer or whatever you're running via modules. You can build LMGs to do over 500k dps.

Caveat to that though, is that your modules scale off your base stats. If your descendant is level 10, and you're pumping +HP% your base HP is lower the lower your level is so it's not as useful as it is at level 40.

Energy activators are hard to get early on in the game I be careful on what weapon or descendant you put it one

Module levels. Descendant levels do very little and come quickly anyways.

Weapon lvl goes higher then descendant lvl, Descendant survive is more important in normal through modules and weapon lvl will continue to climb.

just a heads up: thundercage > tamer if you building for late/endgame.

tamer is straight trash unless you have nothing better

Ok the order of development will be Increased HP -> Increase Def -> Weapons more likely your Thundercage or Tamer

Then expand your SKILL damage values after hitting "cap" on Thundercage or Tamer. Your weapon is big changer.

Note: Don't need to Catalyst Socket Increased HP / DEF. Always catalyst your desired weapon.

More good weapon choices in addition to Thundercage and Tamer: Assassin's Edge, Frost Gaze, Age of Innovation, Eternal Willpower, Young Noble's Ambition.

Weapons to just avoid until devs buff them. Handguns (white ammo), Beam Rifles, Shotguns.

Beam rifle range is trash, no matter which one you're using.

Focus on ONE Descendant and ONE Gold gun. Use the activators on that one character and that one gun. On the gun, socket it for Firearm ATK, NOT Fire ATK, and Rate of Fire. On your character HP/DEF to stay alive longer. Then depending on the character level their skill damage (if you use it) If you are a gun play only kind of person just focus on HP/DEF/Shields/reload time - (Plus means it will take longer) and element resistances.

Also... Put points into your sub attack ability as it's upgrade grants you more capacity. If you have a special skill putting points into it lowers it's useage cost... but it's hella expensive.

Do this and your game will progress smoothly.

Also... reroll stats on the gold guns. They all craft with subpar stats.
