The sub attack module actually gives you more points to spend.
You can knock or stagger an enemy long enough to defeat them. In special those with shield or immunity.
It's pretty satisfying to kill or hit one with that, after you grapple them.
Also has 2 other attacks to follow up with if needed.
(1) Can sucker punch a mini group of enemies out of existence,
(2) grapple-punch and (3) stun a sub boss or lower for a few seconds.
Plus, like others have said, a fully upgraded and socketed sub mod will
generate 15 extra space (10 upgraded mod +5 from upgraded slot).
