This isn't a "ask me anything" post like I thought.
Sup bro.
TLDR; Yujin doesn't look very viable in solo, but would be a monster in groups with gun damage focused descendants (Unlimited rocket Gley, Critical Enzo, Critical Valby) thanks the the boost to base firearm damage
P.S. I usually main healers myself, but i am still farming his damn spiral catalyst so i can craft him, so all my comments are speculatory based on what i can see in his skill page. I'll come back and let you know my thoughts after i get a hands on experience with him
Outside of the obvious HP stacking that is best practice in modding for hardmode and hardmode collosi fights?
Build around duty and sacrifice transcendent, with the passionate sponsor ultimate arche tech mod. A lil dash skill range, a lot of CDR. duration can be nice later. The fusion battle and attack mods for the stats and more CDR.
What is it that you're finding confusing about the descendant in how to build him?
Go to Anais and build any other Descendant.
His 3rd is an aoe damage resistance buff which can have it's duration and cooldown rendered neutral meaning you can with some effort have it on an ally or allies permanently. the heal is just the icing on the cake.
His 1 IS very slow and honestly it's best to consider it as a way to stabilize hp while keeping stacks of sponsor up.
When I use his ult while having the two purple fusion buff mods (Both Xantic) it easily flat out maxes everyone it hits AND me, in terms of their hp and shield out instantly from half health or so. It's an aoe skill that renders them immune to debuffs and cleanses them of most of the ones they have which is literally mitigating a lot of collosi damage, it is also giving me a skill and firepower buff. With non attrib and fusion mixed mods you'll get less bang but it will still do a sizeable chunk of restoring.
It's possible you don't have the skillpower mods for non attribute/fusion slotted. Is that the case?
He's a caster, you HAVE to give him the right skillpower and modifiers or he just doesn't work. We were all confused about that as yujin players for a while. Focusing on range and ignoring skillpower as his DAS ult, just has a great base scaling without it.
Having used him a lot more now and built him better, experimented, I would PERSONALLY recommend fusion focused bonuses on mods and reactor. He IS the fusion guy. His 2 and his 4 being his real hard workers, allowing you to transition comfortably into using his duty and sacrifice transcendent mod once you get it.
As his 1 is good but not great, being slow and not very interesting and his 3 being best used to mitigate damage moreso than recover it, the damage reduction portion is after all at a flat rate and doesn't scale up with more power. Sp buffing non attribute skillpower % is a bit of a waste on yujin imho.
But his 2 and his DAS ult. Will scale AMAZINGLY well with fusion focuses and skillpower modifier as well as reactor rolls. with his DAS ult at that rate for now being his bread and butter. Healing yourself and your team, from 10% hp to max often WITH shields and then having a heal over time. On an 18 or so second cooldown is just. Bonkers.
You COULD try to focus him on singular (I believe it's singular, I'll come back to you when I have time to log on and confirm) instead that will make his med drone and 3 vastly more powerful. But they honestly just don't seem to have the proper scaling to reward that as much as putting your mod focus into buffing his fusion skills.
