I had crashes from the start, tried a few things. And ultimately what fixed it for me was a simple bios update. Wrote up stuff on my review (which is straight info and not an actual review) in case any of its helpful

While you may not have had issues with other games, but each game is different, has different loads.

I already tweaked power settings in the BIOS as well, and turned off ASUS core enhancement. I also ran the recommended Intel Baseline settings.
I updated my Gigabyte bios in May also, prior to playing First Descendant, attempting to fix an unrelated problem. Gigabyte released a new bios update in June, which is the one I downloaded after having problems with First Descendant. Problem fixed.
"ASUS Z790 Motherboards:
Save your current settings into a profile so you can return to them later if you want.
Reset your BIOS to default settings. Ai Tweaker tab:
Disable MultiCore Enhancement.
Enable XMP(if your RAM supports it).
Set SVID behavior to Typical Scenario.
Set short duration turbo power = 253
Set long duration turbo power = 253
Set max core/cache current = 307Amps"
I had already made these changes after Googling some on this issue. No difference in crashing with First Descendant. Everything else seems to run stable though even before I made those changes.
I checked ASUS website today and yesterday. They haven't released a new BIOS update yet sadly.
I guess I could try. But if my CPU was that bad, I would've had issues with stability prior. I've had no stability issues with any other applications or games.
Yep. I double checked by booting into BIOS earlier today.
I have no desire to search for anything, because it's the only game that causes this. Fix it or i'm out.
I read somewhere that with the new graphics driver it got worse, but did not try do downgrade so far (i'm on the lates version).
Second day it started crashing after a couple minutes of playing.
Fourth? day, I was ably to play for hours again without any crashes.
Today it crashes again after a short while.
Looks like when I get lucky and can play more then 10-20 minutes, the game is stable for the rest of the session.
I ran Benchmarks like 3D Mark, FurMark (for quite a while) and MemTest.
Enabled Hardware Acceleration in Windows.
Used Medium or high settings, with and without Raytracing and DLSS.
I put shaders on "Ultra" and it worked for a session, but I guess this was a coincidence, because it never worked again.
Maybe there is always a small chance to load the shaders properly... or not.
Specs:
Ryzen 5 5600X, 4070s, 32GB DDR3 3200, AsRock B5550 Pro4, Win 10. Steam
Bios and GPU Driver are up to date.
Other programms: iCUE, Logitech G Hub
EDIT:
I found an old "Killer" Network App running in the background, that came with my previous MSI Board. And deleted it.
Now the game runs an hour without issues. Another coincidence?
Well, I guess I will see^^
I haven't found a solution yet. It's getting to be more frustrating as I can't reliably complete any content without fear of a crash. I pretty much have to bail after one or two checkpoints of any of the missions with waves because I don't know at what point I'll crash. I voted continue on the last one I did, only to crash right before the last checkpoint for rewards.
It wouldn't be so bad if I could get back into the mission or whatever else I was doing. The option to reconnect when logging back into the game has worked exactly 0% of the time. It always says "can't connect to the server", so I just have to load in normally and restart whatever I was doing from the beginning.
