Yeah, i clicked on the link and it took me to their forums.
I looked through all of the links but didnt see anything about data collection.
As for discord, yeah... That just happened. In a lot of ways much more concerning.
TBH im ready to delete myself all together.
Right? I always find it amusing when people say things like the OP. Yet they pay will their phone, use cash app, venmo, buy stuff from Temu and even access their bank accounts on their phones/laptops using free WIFI from Starbucks.
Is some dude just spreading lies, and people can't be arsed to fact check? So instead they just parrot the same garbo?
what data do you think they collect?
if you think they collect data about you. as in your personal information, they dont, they dont care about you as an individual.
use internet anywhere, and anyone can get your "precious data"
Btw to add onto this, if you don't want your data sold I respect that, but as a whole be ready to stop using Google, ANY social media, including discord, and forget about running android or having a apple device. In fact forget running steam, or whatever services you have running on your pc. Your data has been getting harvested for many many years. There is a reason why so many softwares, products and services are free nowadays, YOU ARE the product., and even those you pay for, Netflix for example, or Amazon Prime. Well they too collect everything about you, even if you are a paying customer, because you are $$$$$
And if you are from the USA, well fred not, because the company you get your internet from, yes your ISP, is most likely collecting data off of you to sell! Welcome to 2024. :)
Want to make a REAL difference? Go into politics and lobby for data protection laws and blocks on data gathering, because that will be the only place ever, where you will be able to instil change on a level that actually wil do something.
Yeah, i agree with a lot of this.
But i wouldnt call drawing this line convenient. Maybe in the case for steam, sure. But other services that are required for everyday life?
To add in, i dont really play MMOs but thought this game was interesting and got bummed out.
I suppose this was just one of many straws that broke my back. Its bad enough having requirements for life turn me into a number. The whole thing is dehumanizing and why i try to avoid these kinds of products all together.
Yeah, i feel like the out of touch old man screaming at the sky. Im just frustrated with all of this i guess.
Things get infinitely more difficult the more you scale up your privacy wall and at a certain point it's diminishing returns. Do what's best for your threat model but don't forget to live.
In this case the decision is play or don't but in other cases you may be able to do more about it (like opting out on purpose).
I don't even know why opting out is an option when you can't click it. It should be removed and have a opt in or log out button like any other mmo or game does
