Update Broke My NVMe, HELP...
When the update hits, instead of downloading as always, Steam kept cycling between "updating", "starting download", and "validating" without going nowhere. I tried to delete the game to try to install again, but when I tried, it Steam kept saying "disk write error".

I went to the NMVe folder, opened it, the files were there, I tried to delete manually but nothing happened, so I restarted my PC, now the PC isn't recognizing the NVMe, I tried to restart again, and again it doesn't show my NMVe.

I had some games installed in my NMVe together with The First Descendant, and now they are grey in my Steam Library like I didn't install them. What's going on? Please tell me someone had something similar like me. What do I do?

What did you do to "eventually worked"?

i cleared my download cache on steam and made space on my SSD.

with other games i sometimes had the problem that it would refuse to update the game even though i had enough space for the update. reason for it was that it demanded free space equal to the file size of the WHOLE game

After that my download was still stuck at 6% and nothing happening, but i went afk for about 20 minutes and when i came back it was done.

so i have no clue why it happened or what exactly fixed it or if i just was too impatient before.
what happened is you let it actually finish processing data WOW MAGIC

If yor NVMe died it's because you were either not cooling it enough or it was DOA.

You should probably RMA that unit and get a replacement.
It was working perfectly before the update, and the hardware is recent, I got it on December, this is NOT a problem with the Hardware, this update did something that broke the hardware someway.
O MY F.KIN GOD...

No. You bought SSD. SSD have the ability to die for nothing.
It's usually either a product defect or a fake or low quality.

So, the NVMe was in warranty yet, went to the tech and he told me it was dead, but in order to know why he would have to forensics the thing, they'll send another one from 5 to 10 days.

Anyways, I still believe the incapability of making the download, or the download being interrupted abruptly, corrupted something that killed the NVMe disabling it completely from reading.

Depends on the controller. That's why you shouldn't buy a no-name trash.

I didn't buy, it was a gift, if I was to buy, it would Kingston.
Stop assuming things for no purpose, it's pathetic.

Where I said you bought it? I said you should not buy. It doesn't matter who bought it.

P.S. Kingston is good choice btw.

Hi here,

Same problem for me.
Installed on NVMe M.2 Samsung 980 Pro 2To (which is my secondary NVMe).

Every other games installed on it are ok (MW3, Warzone, Returnals, Rocket League, etc )
If I run this game particularly, my NVMe can be disabled after that.

If this is the case, I have to force shutdown, reboot, go in bios, check the list of NVMe, see if it's here
(If not => turn off PSU, click on power button, wait, turn on PSU, reboot)

Checked on Magician Samsung, everything seems ok for this M2.
And checked and tested other components (Ram, CPU, GPU, etc)

Don't know if I want to continue this game :)

(
It also could be a bios update who is faulty, don't know.
ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI
BIOS 2301
)
MATE be ready for this drive to die any second. Thats how one of my ssds behaved an 960evo sometimes just not detecting in bions. One day even 50 reboots did not help and drive was bric., So You got SSD on way out and it was ok on health its the controller part that goes.

I had 2 kingston ssd die in 6 months from purchase :D

And this year my external network drive with 6tb of movies and tv series died... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Oh nooo don't ruin my day !!! :(
If that the case and if my M2 dies, do you have any recommendation about a good brand for Nvme M2 ? (continue with samsung ? Kingston ? WD_Black ? Maybe with a heatsink ? )

Kingston is a quality company but they do make cheap low end SSD's too.

It's mostly about whether you buy cheap low end products with shorter lifespans or more expensive products with longer warranties and lifespans.

Component roulette does add some RNG to this formula though, it is possible to end up with a faulty high end product too.

Heatsinks for M.2 SSD's are always a good idea, as they reduce the wear on the components from heat stress.

Okay so as of the new patch v1.2 !2 July 2024 I have an issue where the game does not want to install and comes back with an error saying disk write failed, before someone says check drive space or something stupid, I would like to let you know I've tried downloading the game on 3 different HDD's and came accross the same problem. I've installed tekken 7 along with the first descendant 3 times and tekken 7 worked fine however the first descendant gave the same issue 3 times on 3 different HDD's.

If anyone has this type of issue and knows how to fix it as I've tried everything from:

Running as admin
Allowing through fire wall
Clearing download cache
Changing download region
Chkdsk in command prompt 3 times for each HDD
Error checking on 3 HDD's
Checked to see if any part of the game got flagged by anti-virus

Sadly, I am still having the same issue.

Any thoughts?

Did you try to uninstall the whole game, and then download it again? I'm still waiting for my NVMe to return, but something that I did was to turn off the automatic download. The update will only download when I press to download, this gives me more safety to know if I should or shouldn't download the update at that moment, maybe doing manually won't repeat this same problem.

Finally. I got my NVMe, already installed, formated, and I'm installing The First Descendant in it again. I asked them what happened to the previous one, they said they were still diagnostic it, so I don't know.
