what does 'purchase slots' do?

I bought two slots and cannot tell what I bought. I thought I was buying slots for external equipment, but it made no difference. I have no clue what I spent money on and am rather pissed off.

If you mean the option under the external components on the inventory screen then you basically purchased inventory space for weapons and equipment.

When you put a buy more slots button at the bottom of a list. it's assumed that you are buying more slots for THAT list.
