Game Causes System to Freeze Up

I updated my drivers before I installed the game and even turned down the settings in case it was too heavy on my GPU, but the game still seemingly randomly will just cause my entire PC to freeze, then the screen goes black cause it no longer has any input, and I have to hold down the power button to get my PC to turn off and then turn it back on again to fix it. Twice it's happened during heavy firefights with a lot of stuff going on in the game on screen, but this second time was after I turned all the settings down to low/medium except the draw distance to see enemies pop in from as far away as possible.

I just tried updating all my motherboard drivers in case that was it for some reason and hopefully won't have any issues going forward, but is this happening to anyone else? I've never seen this before. It's even done it when the game was minimized and I was working on other stuff in the background with the game just chilling at the main menu. I don't notice anything weird in task manager while I'm playing and trying to also keep an eye on that. It's super odd and I don't know what's causing it-I just assume it's something with this game cause it's never happened before with other games and still doesn't happen with other games.

Yes, disabled the Overlay right after my message too.
Also changed the NVidia FPS Overlay to the full Data to monitor my Stuff.
Had no chrash after that, but still not sure if this was the reason.
Game never chrashed when idling or running around in Albion.

Try opening intel extreme tuning utility and lowering your P-core ratio to 55 from 57 if thats what its at. If not just lower it by 2. Worked for me and i was never able to load the game unless i did so.

Starting and running the game was never the Problem.

After multiple checks and repairs, I think I found the problem.
During the TFD gameplay for around 10-30 minutes my computer will freeze up and audio as well then goes into black screen or BSOD, using WinDgb to identify the problem from minidump created from BSOD.

Here's the analysed debug result:

SYMBOL_NAME: nvlddmkm+fe2aa

MODULE_NAME: nvlddmkm

IMAGE_NAME: nvlddmkm.sys

STACK_COMMAND: .cxr; .ecxr ; kb

BUCKET_ID_FUNC_OFFSET: fe2aa

FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: 0x133_ISR_nvlddmkm!unknown_function (freezing issue)

All of this points back to my Nvidia GPU, from my POV the hardware is fine. So the issue is the latest Nvidia Driver Version (556.12) Release Date: Thu Jun 27, 2024.

So for any of you that installed the latest driver version and experienced freezing issue, I recommend to revert back previous version or do a clean-install graphic driver. It's recommended to do clean-install because of the old version driver might left some corrupted files behind and messed it up.

I did a clean-install gpu drive for my computer and installed:
Driver Version: 555.85 - Release Date: Tue May 21, 2024

since then I have played 8 hours straight with no issue, hopefully Nvidia fix it.

I have an R5 5600, 32gb ram, nvme 2tb netac nv7000 rx 7800xt and game randonly freezes, for 2-5 secs, unfreeze, and freeze again for 2-5 secs, and then, goes normal. Anyone having this issue?

I had the same issue, I disabled all additional options under performance and the issue was resolved.

the game probably has a built in crypto miner that they are obfuscating.

Still without problems? It makes sense what you wrote because more games crashes on my PC like Warframe and Once Human. They are freeze my whole PC. It is possible that newest Nvidia drivers are corrupted. Nvidia many times in the past fckd up drivers.

I get that and its super irritating when it happens like this if nothing else than how hard it makes it to troubleshoot and fix. Its likely though that its really not only that game to cause this, but its only that game to cause it so far.. As in eventually, you will see this again in another game or application as they get more complex over time. Eventually something else will hit that weak spot in your system and cause this to happen again.

These sorts of problems really suck to fix. Hopefully that page has one of those suggestions in there that helps you.

I don't think it's my system. I think it's this game. I think it's massively overheating my graphics card despite not using more than 50-60% of it according to my task manager. I can play other games at 100% GPU usage without having these issues. There's something wrong with the game that's causing problems with my PC and other people's PCs. These issues don't happen with other games. Just this one-and unfortunately, none of the steps in that page help. It's all basic stuff that I did before posting this thread. Stuff like check that drivers are up to date and make sure you're not limiting power your machine needs. Nothing in there helps with a game that for some reason is causing your GPU to heat up so badly it's crashing your whole machine.

I wouldn't resume playing it till they fix the game to be honest my pc just shutdown after reaching the menu.

Okay. Thank you for answer. Devs should noticed it but contact with them is useless. Mods are not cooperating too.

i ended up trying to update my bios and haven't had any issues since. i didn't want to try it cause i didn't think it would help and would just risk messing up my PC, but it seems to have done the trick.

This is on:
Win 11 x64
R7 7800X3D
32GB RAM (2x16) DDR5 7600
RXX 7900 XT 20GB
Installed on secondary M.2 (Same as all the other games)

Go try to reinstall videodriver to one of the past versions. Latest 24.6.1 driver is trash.
