Unlock the settings menu.
The title says it all. I would like to be able to manage my graphics settings but I can't, instead I'm locked to low settings.

Guess it's then limiting the settings for any mgpu even or being below certain specs, well you don't actually know the proper specs for laptops, higher than what is listed anyway.
You should prolly ask around if all laptop users with mgpu are limited to low settings.

"No. I've just found info on the official site that it's supposed to be like that if your hardware characteristics are lower then certain requirements. Hope they'll change it in the future maybe... "

Thank you everyone for your help either way. I'm going to assume this is an issue that will be fixed on the future updates, if ever. I don't believe there is a way to currently fix it on my end.
it's annoying can't find solution

So guys u can do this

Press Windows + R, %localappdata%, Find Folder M1 > Saved > Config Windows, and open the GameUserSettings.ini

AntiAliasing=1

PostProcessing=1

Shadows=1

GlobalIllumination=1

Reflections=1

Textures=2

Effects=1

Foliage=1

Shading=1

Mesh=1

Physics=1

0 is the lowest, 1 is medium etc...

I have tried this, but it sets the settings back into Low as soon as I start the game. On my end at least.

Did you tried setting GameUserSettings.ini to read only after you change them in notepad? Game shouldnt modify those after start then.
Sencake Jul 5, 2024 @ 4:27am
okay so after trying a few more times, I got the settings to stay as they should. in case anybody wants further assistance with this, I found this Reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheFirstDescendant/comments/y91548/the_first_descendant_graphics_settings_guide/

Remember to not open your settings in game once you set them through the file because it immediately seems to set everything to low again. You could also make a copy of the file for when you want to restore your settings to whatever state they are in.

I did originally do that, but then the game made a new gameusersettings.ini file and used that instead.

what is your gpu anyway? it can be low vram issue considering game wont let you change anything
Sencake Jul 5, 2024 @ 4:31am
Even after editing the User file and never opening the options in game, it seems to set its graphics settings to Low on occasion on its own. So it is not a permanent solution.

Nvidia RTX 3050m. It is able to play Cyberpunk2077 with 60 fps, so it's definitely not a problem on my end. The game simply does not have support for laptop graphics card (so M models).

It’s definitely problem on your end, desktop 3050 is ♥♥♥♥ already and only has 6gb of vram. Mobile versions of gpu are mostly inferior to desktop variants and have less vram. Just stop expecting wonders with 4gb of vram and low end graphics card in 2024. Game uses unreal engine 5 which is considered next get game engine and nowadays 8gb of vram is mandatory for newest games.
TLDR As I mentioned, 4gb of vram of your gpu is not enough for everything above low settings in devs opinion

The additional options are just so you can select something like DLSS and yes I've tried all of those.
