Each character in the shop -- as of the open beta -- required four different research materials -- and a lot of credits -- that you would use to unlock a descendant.

There were three ways to get these research materials. The first is through acquiring resources on the map and eventually accumulating enough to be able to construct certain research materials. The other two ways were through a dropped item called an Amorphous Material which, when you open them, will randomly give you parts. These parts could be different descendant research parts, weapon research parts, etc. Both Special Operations and Void Intercepts drop these.

Now, if I remember correctly from the open beta, the research materials that the Amorphous Materials give you from the Special Operations are the same ones you can construct yourself using parts lying around the world. However, the research material that the Amorphous materials from Void Intercepts drop are ones you can't get from anywhere else: descendant codes (e.g. Bunny Code, Valby Code, etc.).

When you're researching them, each research material tells you which void intercept bosses will drop that research material, so you'll know which bosses to grind. However, because Void Intercept bosses are locked based on level, this means you won't be able to get certain descendants until you're sufficiently high level to take on Void Intercepts that drop the Amorphous Materials that you need.

No gacha, skins go for like 15$ in currency.

There is only one skin available and it's $60. Ultimate bunny. There may be others but that is the only one that is worth anything.

Beta had only one lottery: dyes. Everything else is just a lengthy grind - but it's not a grind when it's fun - right? :lunar2019piginablanket:

The ultimate descendants aren't "skins" for descendants. Ultimate Bunny isn't a "skin" for Bunny. Bunny and Ultimate Bunny are two completely different descendants.

the only "gacha" is the colors are before you could buy which ever you wanted but now is in an RNG box because they changed they to be single use which is beyond stupid.
