Everything can be acquired for free by playing, no paygates on any content.
P2W elements for sure but grind looks within reasonable levels for the type of game.
Thanks for the info!
Is that legitimately a thing? XD Oh dear, you may very well be right.
After looking at the characters, all of the ones I wanna play as are male, so I think I can avoid that money-snare, haha~
They are another variant of the character with higher states and are a little harder to farm. They provide additional Mastery XP as they are leveled separately from the base version. The launch version is confirmed to have Ultimate variants for Lepic, Ajax, Viessa, Bunny and Gley. You can see them here: https://tfd.nexon.com/en/gameinfo/character/view?name=ultimategley
Also, on the topic of character skins, there's also Mastery unlocks when you reach level 30 with each character, for free and cannot be bought. All the skins can also use the color customization AFAIK using color channels, akin to Warframe's system.

This certainly has the feeling of a game that is all flash and retreading the low amount of substance to annoy people into the wallet pull out, and there just isn't anything here that is keeping my attention that well.
It's a simple "It looks cool, might be fun for a bit" kind of game, so that's what I'll be treating it as. They'll need to pull their own weight if they want to change that opinion, and if they keep up the attempts at wallet harvesting that won't do it.
If that's true, that continues to be one of the dumbest things a developer can do. But considering many consumers are even dumber I can't blame companies for pulling half the **** they do when the buyers can't keep themselves in check.
