eXceed - Gun Bullet Children

The controls are pretty awful with an Xbox 360 controller.
The dead zone is way too big with a joystick, the d-pad isn't even an option, and you can't go diagonally while using a controller without something like XPadder. I hope there's an update addressing these problems soon.

The game was designed to use digital controls. Try using a fight pad or fight stick, or just use your keyboard.
It's been a while since I used my flight stick. I wonder if it still works.

FIghtstick istn an option too.
Its more ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up then with Xbox360 Controller.
The game starts and gets an instan "UP" signal scrolling throu the menu.
You cant do anything cuz it always thinks Im pressing "UP".
Fightstick isnt broken btw. I testet it with other games and there an no issues.
The game still needs an update.

The game will never be upated. The source code is long lost and the game can be considered a fossil as far as doujin shmups go.
*Looks at the username. Shakes his head in an "I don't know, whatever," sort of way.*
Anyway, that's too bad, but thankfully it doesn't block XPadder.

Yeah, just use joy2key or something. No big deal.

I'm not even using a controller and the controls are infinitely scrolling up. What's the deal?

I think it might be over-sensitive to some joysticks. This why games with controller compatibility need dead-zone adjustment options. I've seen games with that option so I know it's possible.

It's not a dead-zone issue but some rather sloppy logic. The game is looking for absolute directions on BOTH the X and Y axes to determine direction. This works with gamepads that only have a D-pad. For gamepads with analog controls, you're going to have a bad time finding the exact cardinal positions.

More than you wanted know:

Old gamepads with only D-pads still sent joystick information. It's just that they only ever sent absolute (0% or 100%) coordinates on both axes. Modern controllers with both analog and d-pad controls give the joystick information as intended and use "POV Hat" for the D-pad.

how are the controls bad?
you mean on a controller?
not sure it was meant for that says partial controller support
with kb, the game runs fine!
just wish there was a manual to translate the japanese and tell ya how to play really

If you have a Logitech F510/F610/F710 controller, hit the mode button (lit) and the left stick analog input maps to the D-pad and controls as it should.

id i used motionjoy and a ps3 controller emulated to ps2 dpad worked fine but kb and mouse is best for me
I prefer to play these games with a gamepad.

gamepads for pc are where its at
if one prefers gamepads

im just tired of games that dont say "controller recommended" or required
but then require them..
this gen of ports from xbox and ps are making me sick

anyway.. the game is fine on kb and mouse, but yep gamepads are indeed better than motionjoy emulating ps to xbox or even an xbox controller (they have always sucked imo vs ps controllers) or gamepads
