does turning on ranking change matchmaking?

I mostly play Delta Force right now, and in that game, turning on ranking doesn't change anything, just ranks you based on your performance, but you are literally playing against the same people you would have if you didn't turn it on.
Is that how it works in this game, or does it put you in a 'ranked server'? I am inclined to say it puts you in a ranked server because I came back to the game yesterday after months of not playing and my friend left 'ranked' on and we got absolutely DESTROYED, like the sweatiest of sweats were in the game (in our second match I was sniped in about 10 seconds without even leaving spawn). When we turned it off we had a much more chill match, but I didn't have time for more than those 3 matches so its hard to say if it was coincidence or not.

Having ranked turned on or off does not impact matchmaking. It also states that in the game while turning it off.
