Ys Origin
[SOLVED] Black screen when alt-tabbing or exiting game, can only boot computer, help needed.
Hiya!

My gf bought Ys Origin, but she's having weird problem that no-one else seems to have, at least after lots of googling.

When exiting the game, or alt-tabbing to windows, screen goes black and it's not possible to do anything other than boot the computer. Ctrl+alt+del, Alt+F4, waiting for 15 minutes (max that we waited) doesn't help at all. We can hear the game-sound on the background though, but nothing else happens. Only solution is to boot the computer :\

We tried to run the game in compatibility modes and disabling Windows themes, which worked for few game-sessions, but then it started going it again with the same settings.

My gf has Windows 7 as operating system, gtx460 graphics card and i5 760 CPU. Game is installed into SSD.

Can anyone help with this problem? Ys Origin is awesome game, but this issue is making us not want to play it at all because we tend to alt-tab a lot from games and all that.

EDIT:
PROBLEM FOUND AND FIXED: My gf has Comodo Firefall, and for some reason that firewall messes up with the game somehow so that when you exit or alt-tab, you get the black screen. Disabling Comodo firefall or putting it to gaming-mode resolves the issue.

EDIT2: Another solution found, thanks to Barnestormer in the comments:

Finally found a fix for this on some Microsoft Forums. You have to change your windows display adapter settings to have a 60hz refresh rate instead of the default 59hz.

1. Windows Key
2. Display - Click Display Settings
3. Click Advanced Display Settings
4. Click Display adapter properties
5. Click List all modes
6. Choose your resolution @ 60hz.

Worked for me. Was getting black screen lockups in DS3, CS:GO and a handful of others. Cheers!

Yeah mine is already at 60 hz. This is so frustrating

If your refresh rate is already set to where it should be. Try this method. It worked for me.
I was having the same issue, I have a 980 Ti and a 1440p @ 144hz monitor.

1. Go to your GPU's control panel. Easy way is to type in Nvidia control panel after hitting the windows key on the keyboard.
2. Go to 3D settings> Manage 3D settings.
3. Click on Program Settings Tab.
4. Find the game that causes the black screen issue in the drop down list. If its not there, you can browse to the game folder location and add it by clicking the .exe launcher link.
5. Scroll through the list of settings and find the setting for preferred refresh rate.
6. In the drop down list next to preferred refresh rate, choose Application controlled.
7. Hit apply button and exit the control panel.

Hey. I have a 180hz monitor. Have it set to 144hz, have g sync on, running game at 140hz cap. When I end any full screen game my monitor blacks out and I have to either restart PC or plug out screen and back in. Sound like the same issue? :/ My card is a 980ti. In need of assistance if ye can help. I didn't really want to turn g sync off. I figured I bought the g sync to use it ya know?
Thanks for this - it helped with other games too!
Thank you so much it work now, but every time i start my computer my settings go back to 1080p 59herz.
Anyone here know how to get rid of that?
Thank you very much, changing the refresh rate from 59Hz to 60Hz fixed this problem in Team Fortress 2. Although getting to the refresh was slightly different on my Windows 10 laptop using an attached 24 inch monitor:
1. Right click anywhere on the desktop.
2. Select Display settings
3. Select Advanced display settings
4. Select Display adapter properties
5. Click Monitor tab
6. Under Monitor Settings adjust the Screen refresh rate

You are my savior, this problem has been bothering me for a while.
Thank god for this thread
Non of the solutions worked for me on this thread (that I've seen) but found a solution in my case.
I was getting black screen with sound but no cursor on exiting from c&c Kane's wrath and rocksmith 2014, solution was to turn off anti-aliasing and can now exit game to desktop no problem. Hope this helps for anyone else , where the other solutions ( Firewall & 59hz - 60hz) haven't worked.
My solution was to give the screen back and get a better one :/

Cheers, that helped me. 144hz monitor and already had it set that way in windows. Instead of program specific settings in nvidia control panel, i changed global settings to application controlled. Do you think there would be any downsides to this?
