I'm keeping my fingers crossed. In the past, XSEED has said that it's difficult to bring an existing Ys game to Steam if there isn't a Windows/PC version that already exists. In the case of Ys Seven, it was originally released on the PSP in 2010, but subsequently received a Windows release in China two years later. Since I don't have a Vita, and I don't speak any of the Chinese dialects, I would love to see Nihon Falcom provide XSEED with the rights to bring this over to the west.

I'm still wondering why they didnt release Ys: Ark of Nephistim even though it already got an english translation done to it waaaay before it made it to PS2 with voice acting. We should of had that by now with the other releases.

@Frosty: I agree. Not to mention the fact that it was released on PC prior to being released on PS2 (in Japan only, but the port existed nonetheless). This question was asked to XSeed a few years ago, and this was the response (I omitted the irrelevant text):

At any rate, the possibility exists that we'll be able to release the PC version of Napishtim at some point. We won't be able to say one way or another, though, unless and until we know for sure, so all I can really tell you right now is that it's something that's been suggested before, and something we'd be interested in pursuing.

There is good news, though. XSEED released a photo earlier this month that hinted of certain games coming in 2015.

Here is the photo they released

Here is what people came up with the deciphering the photos. Most notable is #7, which is Geis from Ys: Ark.

Very much looking forward to [/i]Ark[/i], as well as a possible Ys Seven release. Although I suspect any PC release for Ys Seven is quite a ways away; almost certainly no 2015 release (although I'd love to be surprised!)

I really want Ark on Steam. I know Ys 4 and 5 will probably never come out on here but I'd so love to see Ark and Ys 7. It baffles me why they haven't yet. Licensing issues? Or do they just not think it'd be successful enough?

I agree that Ys 4 and 5 are extremely unlikely, although I'd be incredibly pleased if I was wrong. To my knowledge, there is no official English translation that exists for these two (fan-made translation may exist, though)

As for Ys Seven's absense from Steam: If I had to guess, it would come down to a few issues:

  • Lack of an existing PC port
  • Nihon Falcom not distributing the game rights to XSEED (or another company).
  • Backlog of existing projects

Back in 2013, one of the XSEED developers made a comment on a potential Memories of Celceta PC release. Although it's not Ys Seven, her comment is still pertinent:

It's not up to us. Without a PC version of the game there's little we can do. A port is pretty far beyond our abilities right now.

Ys Seven on PC is a direct PSP port with very little enhancement, by a Chinese company. Not to say it won't happen but it's something to be aware of, because it's not Falcom's own work and brings a lot of concerns and considerations to the table. Ys VI wouldn't have any problems like that though.

The good news is that Ys 6 is a certainty. But judging from her comment, it seems like the Chinese PC port of Ys Seven may not meet their quality standards. I'd love to see it happen, but I suspect it might be a year or two away if it does occur. I'm keeping my hopes up!

So it looks like Ys 6, Trails Ch. 2, and two others on the 2015 bar. Third one looks like it might be Zwei!!.

Ys Seven was oddly the game that intoduced me to the Ys series. My friend was playing it when he rented it and he was bewildered by the difficulty of one of the bosses. This was before we had the concept of grinding in mind. We both ended up making it a project to take turns trying to beat the sucker. It was a marvelous time, so personally Ys seven has a bit of a special place in my heart! I would LOVE to see a Ys Seven release here on steam since I do not have a PSP... Hell if there was some sort of collectors edition, I'd absolutely caugh up the extra dough to get it!

Yeah, I'm praying for the release of the Ys Seven on Steam! It was the first game of the series I played and one of the best RPGs I've ever played in my life!
