How to perform lunge attack?

Hello,
I started as Yunica and trying to do that lunge attack but have no idea how to do that. I am playing on gamepad and in manual is: attack immediately after coming to a stop.. but my char just do normal attack. Can someone please explain me how exactly to do lunge ?

Tap a directional button, delay any input for a split second, then press the attack button. Not sure it's strictly necessary, but I always do this starting from a stationary position.
