For the Untouchable achievement you can use Hugo (and his wind skill) and do the Wailing Blue stage 4 times in a row.
For Nightmare mode bosses, you really need to learn their patterns and how to dodge them. You also have to learn how to use the potential of each character. For example, against the first boss for Yunica, you can do a maximum of 1 full combo and 1-2 hits on him before he attacks, and on Nightmare his attacks have much more range than on Normal.
I hope it helped. ^^

Right now Im trying to beat hugo first boss but I have the problem that I cant outrun her and my shiled only blocks 1 attack, 2 when charged and she on nightmare she cames to close alot of times and I simply cant stop her damage.

Adol for the time being is simply a character I cant use properly even on normal.
I can play Yunica fairly well on normal but on nighmare so far Ive been disater.
The only character that play reasonably well is hugo's brother. he is fast, his burst is powerfull and it has a long range and all his skills have movemnt envolved however even if I managed to beat all normal bosses I dont think I could beat his last boss on nightmare I say that because I had a really hard time defeating on normal I cant even imagine him on nightmare.
Also thanks for the tips I will keep trying.
Ys Origin's Adol is from Ark or Oath, right? Could try playing that game first to get a feel for his playstyle.

Yeah I know Im just playing the series cronologically. it is just compared to the other characters adol has a way diferent playstyle. In regards to hugo first boss I managed to discover the trick to survive her spear barrage, I simply had to jump over all along instead of running away from her.
Also is it suposed to hugo Ex's attacks be able to bypass shields?
I thought Yunica is closest to Adol?

Yunica is a weaker version of Adol, although she is a bit faster (normal attacks and recover) and her charged skills have a better range for this game's bosses.
Hugo Ex has "evolved" skills, and the position of the Eyes of Fact depends on the selected skill. Wind is normal, Lightning is a line behind Hugo, Fire is a circle surrounding Hugo. But that's all i think, i didn't notice a shield break ability. If you're talking about the yellow screen the human bosses and some enemies have to counter physical attacks, Hugo's attacks (normal and ex) ignore it.
Hugo: Play safe until you have enough mana for a second bubble
Toal: God speed out of everything, jump attack is really strong against most bosses.

It's both. Felghana (awesome melee and shield spell) is the first version you get, and you unlock Napishtim (brokenly powerful spells) shortly afterward.

Nah, Yunica is waaaaay slower than Adol. It's really noticeable on fights like Dalles where she has to chase down the flying things and run out of vortices. During Kishgal she can get randomly clipped by falling icicles even while running at full speed, and it's nearly impossible for her to dodge the dragons (which is very easy for Toal and Adol even without guard skills).

She also has a weird combo, which is less reliable than Felghana Adol's. Instead of 6 swings, she does 4, but the 4th one makes a little shockwave that hits two more times. Unfortunately, the hitboxing is weird and it has enough knockback that the shockwave usually misses. Yunica's main advantage is that her hits stagger the target a bit longer, which is very effective on early enemies, but sketchy in the late game and useless on bosses. In the same amount of time, Adol can chain faster and generally more powerful combos.

Her specials are mostly crappier versions of Felghana Adol's. Whirlwind is fine but you get less airtime -- you can attack normally while it lingers around you, but the way simultaneous hits work in this game, there's not much point because whirlwind ticks override it anyway. Bolt Crash is really just Adol's earth shield with less block frames -- it does very respectable damage, but Yunica desperately needs evasive/defensive options and Bolt Crash's guard window is too short to be more than situational. Phoenix is good, but it's also really boring to use, and it kind of has to be good because bosses past Gelaldy try very, very hard to discourage her from using anything else (and the sword itself is awful).

Also, her Boost is bugged and provides no offensive benefit whatsoever. All it's good for is the defense buff and Burst. Her Burst is so bad it'll get her killed against most of the bosses she can even use it against. Compare to Adol, whose Boost gives an insanely fast 12-hit combo with splash damage and almost no recovery time.

For what it's worth, I had a lot of trouble with Adol too until I played Oath in Felghana. Once you get his rhythm down he's either the best one or right behind Toal.

Napishtim Adol is kind of weird to compare, because he has a different melee combo for each equipped spell, and they're all kind of crap, but you won't really notice because the spells are so overpowered.

Toal's closer. Adol is almost as fast as him, and they both base a lot of their gameplay around sneaking in melee damage and escaping with robust defensive spells. Yunica's late game gets almost all of its damage from phoenix or bolt crash.

Toal has to fight Dalles with no revive accessory :)

It's actually easier than with the others with a revive though, because fire spin just wrecks him, he's fast enough to escape vortices or swing around behind lasers without any trouble at all, and godspeed can get you out of pretty much anything else that even looks sketchy. It's not even funny.

As for general Nightmare tips...

Yunica:
- Take some aspirin first.
- Get friendly with Bolt Crash. Very friendly.
- There are a select few boss attacks that can be blocked reliably with Bolt Crash. Most of them are during Gelaldy. You will almost never use it to block outside of that fight (maybe Pictimos, but you're probably better off circling him anyway).
- If the boss is stunned and you have an opportunity to do a lot of damage, use Bolt Crash.
- If the boss is in the air, Use Bolt Crash because it hits a vertical column. This includes Zava, or Nygtilger while he's on the walls.
- Never, ever use the fire sword's melee unless you literally have nothing better to do while phoenix is charging and nothing is attacking you. It's slow and leaves you wide open.
- Your attack animations are all long, and your evasive and defensive options are all bad. So you can't afford to get into a situation where you might be hit (especially against a character boss). This generally means you'll either attack from range with phoenix, or Bolt Crash once and then run away.
- Whirlwind gives you a small boost forward, but the pause afterward means it's not enough to resist suction.
- Yunica's Boost is bugged. No attack buff actually happens. If there's a buff to her attack speed, it's negligible. The only advantage to boosting is half damage taken, and most cases where you'd want that are tricky split-second dodges you'd need to reliably make throughout the fight anyway. Last time I did her Boss Rush, I think I Boosted maybe five times, and most of them were preemptive when Kishgal called dragons or combo'd falling icicles + spread shot.
- Your Burst is hilariously bad and you should almost never use it in a boss fight. Most bosses will either walk out of its radius or be pushed out of it (why does a long-duration limited-range AOE have strong pushback?!) and then drop things on you that will kill you the moment it wears off. It does not block most terrain damage or instakill attacks like Zava or Dalles's ultimates. IMO Epona's clone attack is the only place you should even consider it. Maybe Kishgal's dragons, but only if he's dropped a big iceberg very recently.

Hugo:
- Most bosses are handled best with shield + normal shots. Boring, but effective.
- If you need to do a lot of damage very quickly, trap mines or fire wheel.
- The fire wheel staggers anything that touches the circling wheels. This lets you wade right into melee with smaller enemies.
- Learn what attacks take priority. Enemies can only be hit by one thing at once, and your regular shot is usually bottom priority. If you have a shield on, it'll hit instead and usually do almost no damage. If you Boost, most of those extra shots will do nothing unless there's more than one target.
- Boost gives bonuses to your specials. Trap mines hit harder, shields block more, and your fire lasers pierce multiple enemies better.
- Your Burst is ridiculous and you should use it often. I recommend humming Flight of the Valkyries when you do.

Toal:
- Most of your damage will come from melee combo or fire spin. Get used to closing distance during your opening, attacking until right before the enemy does, then either escaping with godspeed, or blocking with fire spin and continuing to attack.
- Boost gives a huge upgrade to your skills. Boosted fire spin does an absurd amount of damage, and you can usually get 2-3 before Boost wears off.
- Thunder Claw is for cleaning up minions, and not much else. I guess Nygtilger, but...meh. I guess Shion is built around it.
- Burst is risky, but being aimable means it can pay off where Yunica's doesn't. Mostly though, you'll use Boost for the special bonuses.

Adol (Felghana)
- Mostly same as Toal. Expect to do most damage with melee, then earth shield away. A couple bosses are susceptible to Whirlwind, but earth shield can block almost anything in the game, and spamming it makes you invulnerable for a pretty long window.
- Earth shield has enough pause afterward that it can't escape suction with a single cast, but spamming it can.
- If an enemy is immune to knockback, earth shielding through them will hit them several times. It's a fantastic way to damage big bosses, and some character bosses' attacks will root them in place and make them susceptible to this.
- Boost makes your melee combo ridiculous. In most cases you put out so much damage that you can go ahead and soak a couple hits while you shred the crap out of the boss. Even on Nightmare.
- Fireballs are...meh. They were mostly used in Oath to chain melee combos together and skip the recovery frames, or to hit bosses while they did distance attacks. But Origin's bosses seem to be balanced around Toal, who has no ranged attack. Adol can safely melee and escape things Yunica can't, so there's little need for a ranged attack. I think I used it against Zava's demon heads, and not much else.
- Burst, like Toal, is risky but at least you can give it an initial direction. Mostly though, Boost is worth more than Burst offensively, and earth shield is better defensively.
- In Oath, Adol took half damage while casting fireball or whirlwind. This...may or may not happen in his Origin appearance, but there were a couple cases in Oath where it was useful if you got trapped, knew you were going to get hit, and didn't have earth shield (Gyalva).

Adol (Napishtim)
- You have three different melee combos and they're all terrible.
- Your spells are all ridiculously powerful.
- Lightning and fire wave hit about a zillion times, and often bypass bosses' defenses because they weren't tuned to look for them.
- Whirlwind makes you completely invincible for a very long time, and also hits a tall vertical area. Have fun with that.

Poor Yunica ;_;
Iced_Paper Oct 6, 2015 @ 12:39am
Thanks for the clarification Waypoint, i really thought Yunica was a bit faster than both versions of Adol...
And also, charged Whirlwind (Yunica) can be useful on some bosses since it keeps you in the air for a few moments (but like Waypoint said, the recovery time is long) and you get fast hits with it.
Use charged phoenix if you don't want to take risks going in close combat, it has knockback, so it keeps the human bosses away from you (or get them closer, it's a bit random depending on the angle).

Thank you all for the tips, right now Im still doing the campaign in nightmare with Hugo Ex.
In regards to Yunica I honestly mostly used the fire sword in most of the time becaue Im not a big fan of close combat with her.

For Untouchable use EX Hugo. Go for Wailing Blue on easy I say EX Hugo because he has a tiny bit more range than regular Hugo and that extra bit is exactly what you need for this achievement because it puts you out of range for the hardest monsters in Wailing Blue. Have the charged wind shield up at all times, stay out of range and attack a lot.

It may take a bit of practice but that's the easiest route to go.

Of note for Nightmare time attack with Napishtim Adol. Expect a ton of frustration because his magic doesn't always work right. Usually what happens is the range fails at a critical moment when you need it so you waste your magic. This especially seems to happen a ton on the battle with Dalles, but it happens a few times with Khonsclard as well. Make sure the enemy you want to hit is visible on the screen since some of the fields can make the enemy go off screen (Zava is the worst about this) and all his ranged attacks fail if what you are hitting is off screen.

Also the invincibility with the wind attack doesn't always work. But something to keep in mind with all characters is that when using burst they are invinvile for the duraton of it. Even if the atack itself is useless for a few battles that is very useful. Dalles is a prime example where this is quite valuable. On Hugo's route, it's also very good for Toal 2 since avoiding Toal's burst attack is incredibly had (I've only pulled it off once).

The only trouble I ever had with Napishtim Adol was that the lightning bolt was kind of flaky. But it was so hilariously powerful that even when it missed half the time it still did an asston of damage. Fire wave has even longer range than anything Hugo does, and I ended up killing Pictimos early because I could hit him across the whole arena before he could dump more minions.

You shouldn't be using lightning against Khonsclard or Zava. Go fire for Khonsclard to hit multiple petals harder, and knock Zava out of the air with whirlwind's tall hitbox.

Unless your name is Hugo (because he can keep moving), try very, very hard to NEVER Burst against Dalles -- at least not on the final phase. Almost every time, he'll either drop a suction vortex on you while you're immobile, or one of the minions will leave a Heavy cookie on your head that debuffs you the moment it wears off and then you get hit by everything else and a vortex. He can chain vortices as long as he likes, so it's pure luck.

The only time the risk is worth it is if he's floated way off the edge and is charging a laser. And even then it's a huge risk because the minions will still Heavy you. I think the only time I ever got away with it was when I blocked the laser and killed the last minion with my own laser -- I still got hit by a lingering Heavy, but at least Dalles had been preoccupied and couldn't drop a vortex before getting stunned. One time I lucked out and proc'd a Leg Guard on the Heavy, but still got caught by the vortex.

If you can't swing around behind him, you might actually be better off just Boosting for defense and eating the laser while spamming your guard move on the minions. It hurts like hell, but not as badly as cutscene death, and you can keep pressure on the minions.

Fire was also extremely flaky about being ranged and you'd see it a bit on Khonsclard, oddly wasn't a problem with Pictimos though. And it typically would happen when you are needing to make sure the fire also hits the boss so it stops attacking and you can go after the pods. It was more typical of the charged fire and what would happen is that instead of going across the screen it would just hit in front of you. Fine for the pod you are working on, but sucks if you were aiming to get two pods and the boss disabled. Lightning definitely flakes out much more, but making sure the target is on screen does help. I'm betting the lightning and fire flaking out is relatd to the amount of stuff on the screen since Khonsclard and Dalles are the ones it happens the most on and there's a lot of stuff to dodge in those. I use lightning for Zava because it's more likely to allow you to avoid that nasty nearly guaranteed KO attack towards the end if you don't knock her out of the air in time and you only have a very tiny window to pull it off in. And one thing I learned the hard way, burst doesn't help if you screw that one up.

And yeah, as far as burst goes, I only use it when I can't avoid the laser thing. Even boost isn't enough to eat the damage. But the invulnerability also prevents heavy. It's also awesome if with Adol or Toal you can get a hit off to the minions and possibly take one out.

But to each their own on strategy. What works for some people may not work for others. Burst works for me with any character if I can't get behind Dalles before the laser comes (usually because one of those suction portals is present). Wind on Zava doesn't work for me as well. I tried it, and lightning just worked better even if it does less damage and drags the battle out more.

Also another reason to avoid cutscene death from being sucked into the portal? I've had it freeze twice now when that happened. Basically the game responds, but Dalles just sits there and doesn't do the attack and you can't do anything and have to close the game and start over. Very frustrating bug to run into.
