Game length?
YouTube is telling me that this game is about 7 hours long? Is that true? If so, that's very disappointing. I understand that there are different characters for replayability but that does nothing for me.

4-7 hours long if you know what you are doing i.e. completing the game many times.

But for normal gameplay, that you play normally and no guides, could easily take up to 15 hours

And if you think 7 hours long is disappointing, then try Nightmare difficulty on subsequent runs, a whole new of perspective there.

Okay, I haven't played any of the games in the series. Just seems like a short game considering other RPGs of it's time were longer. But maybe it takes me longer because I'm unfamiliar with the game, thanks!

To be fair is not your usual dialogue heavy and long JRPG , it is more of a hack-and-slash action combat with metroidvania vibe, which focuses on challenging bosses, platforming, backtracking & exploring.

And with this genre usually a playthrough isn't that long (5-7 hrs max), thus it relies on replayability instead, thus the different characters as you know.

And despite the number 6 or 7, I still put 254 hrs into the game anyway, no regrets.

Thus, you should give yourself a try on all character, and if possible, replay but with Nightmare difficulty. Oh and this is just my suggestion, if you are not good at action game nor wanting to exercise much, forget it then, I'm not forcing ok.

Older Ys games are much more action focused and thus very short (and very replayable). If you want a long JRPG, try Ys VIII or IX. VIII in particular can easily take 50+ hours if you go for the true ending (which requires doing the majority of sidequests). IX is a bit shorter, at maybe 40 hours.

Still, you want to play it twice -- since you can't play the character that gets the "true ending" on your first run.

You can even play it with all three characters, just be aware that it gets kind of samey -- while the stories have minor differences, the overall game is the same.

What I ended up doing was just downloading a Rom of Ys III. I'll just start there and try them all. Ys VIII looked great though too.

My play time for my 1st playthrough with Yunica on Normal difficulty was 11.5 hours, although that's not including all the deaths and retries. 8~12 hours is probably a normal completion time. The 3 different characters, arena mode, boss rush, and achievements pad the game out quite a bit. It's only like $5 on sale, so pretty good value.

The older Ys games being shorter is honestly a breath of fresh air. I get burned out on all those 50+ hour JRPG's.
