so the game play is fun? have u played hades? is it like that? I liked hades for about 5 hours, now I,m bored of it....
Ys VIII on the other hand was considered great.
I'd suggest you to do Felghana and this one if you didn't like the party system.
PS: Keep also in mind that the series' mostly about lore elements and each are separate episodes in the same universe (except Ys 2 which is the second part of the first game)
Both VIII and Celceta have more efforts in building up storyline, with VIII being among the greatest of Ys series imho (but it really took time to heat up as it was 50hrs+ game after all), yet you found them not engaging enough then high chance you won't be into older Ys titles. After all, older games' stories were much more simplified, very Hero-save-the-day tone - you explore things, you face issues, you solve the issues and fight the villains, meanwhile the background lore being vague requires you to read further on Wiki/Artbooks if interested.
About the gameplay, older Ys games are more hardcore (from I to VI except V) than newer games (from SEVEN to IX Monstrum currently) because they contain classic nightmare elements - bullet-hell + homing attacks, high dmg dealing, platforming, traps, etc. I'm not saying newer games cannot be challenging, but having Flash Guard and Flash Move can help you cheesing bosses and survive better, plus gears and healing support. Meanwhile, you don't f*cking around in Origin or Felghana for example on higher difficulties, no healing, no parties, strict on mana/SP usage and guard timing, some fights can be too intense requiring you to focus 100% all the time, else you will face 'Game over' screen less than 10 seconds. Even more nightmarish when having achievements require beating Boss Rush that can take more than 2 hours with practice, even up to 11h+ if you went totally unprepared but still trying. And considering your experience with such hardcore title like Hades, you might get bored soon as well, not because of the bosses, but struggling in the dungeon alone is painful enough already - you cannot overlevel and upgrade as you like (technically you can still grind but very tedious process), enemies hit pretty hard and can be troublesome to fight against.
TL;DR - Older Ys titles are for players who don't mind simple storyline, and at the same time not being afraid of facing the Nightmare. And if you get attached to them longer you eventually could feel/appreciate something great from them, but that is if you survived. Or just forget everything I said if you're already a hardcore gamer.
It's more like Diablo in a way.
As for gameplay, this game is actually challenging and is more straightforward. One of my problems with later Ys games is that a lot of the time they feel like number porn/ brain dead hack and slash. Like, I never needed to think about how to approach a boss fight, I just went in and beat them without a care. Keep in mind, I play these games on Nightmare. Even my first run of Ys1 and 2 were on Nightmare (YEAH I SLAYED THAT SCREEN SAVER ON NIGHTMARE!!!) They are still good but after my first run, I never go back to them. I tried it with Celcetea to get the remaining achievements that I was missing but I just couldn't get into the game again and dropped it.
