Although if you really care about story you should play Origin after Ys II. Otherwise you're pretty much gonna go into I & II already knowing 80% of what's gonna happen.
In FF there is no story connection at all between the main games.
But in Ys, there is a connection in that they all take place in the same setting and some elements of the setting and some characters are connected. However, you will not need the previous game to understand what happens in any of the games (except Ys II).
You may still find it more useful to play some games before others. Doomlord has one suggestion (though I didn't listen to it hahaha).
Keep in mind that Ys I&II has a gameplay completely different than the rest of the serie while Napishtim, Felghana and Origin have the same gameplay then Seven and Celceta have a different engine with a party-based gameplay and finally Lacrimosa (and soon Monstrum Nox) is basically fusing Origin with Seven/Celceta gameplay
Again, nothing critical, but you'll see connections.
