I've occasionally slipped off of it when its position isn't in the far center of the arena, I admit. But it only really made a huge difference in Nightmare difficulty.
Anyway, of course I didn’t quit I didn’t give up, I just 'got gud' since JRPG bosses seem to be good at punishing people for making mistakes or charging in without trying to be tactically smart.
Being three levels under is...unusual though, unless you were literally running past everything. These games give hidden exponential XP multipliers based on the difference between your level and your target's. If you're under level at all, you'll get up there in seconds, and just killing most of what happens to be in your path will keep you from falling behind to begin with.
