i tried everything on the graphics (i play on normal usually, windows 10 8gb ram etc) but it's not something related to graphics, i get crashes with every configuration but only when i open the menu (with gamepad keyboard or anything else), where you can see inventory equip and so on.. otherwise the game let me play normally..
and i think it's not related to the OS too since i have win10 but you experience the same issue with other systems like win7 or win8..
edit: it is not definitely also a location issue since I'm quite far in the game, like, the last floors of the tower and seems that the issue is going on everywhere
I had similar crash issues with a very limited number of games on Steam, I remember Final Fantasy 13-2, and resolved with windowed and with using the Windowed Borderless Gaming program, but there I had random crashes, not only while opening the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ camp menu.
Now I can play only in that stupid resolution, at least it works but of course it's not a solution.
the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ seems to have found a balanced configuration, works well like before, but please feel free to add new solutions since I am reading both here and in chat that many other players are having crash issues with Ys Origin these days
this configuration:
1024x768
refresh default
fsaa type none
texture trilinear
anisotropic 2 samples
minimum frame rate 5
options enabled:
full screen
32 bit textures
pixel shader
compresed texture
mipmapping
increase text res
disable mask of eyes
disable water caustics
disable high resolution perf
disable all movie playback
options disabled:
fps display
enable vsync
hardware vertex shader
low resolution textures
other simplification
stretch widescreen
I really don't understand a flying ♥♥♥♥ about all these things, I don't know why, putting the automatic things (lightest, light, high definition etc.) make the game crash directly, putting "normal" (as I was playing since yesterday, all the ys games) crashes on opening the camp menu
With that configuration, the game's working good so far. But my laptop has enough ram and so on to play on higher resolutions so it's not normal of course that it crashes basically every time.
As I said before, it also works with windowed resolutions (not all of them), but it's unplayable.
Seems also to work ENABLING low-resolution textures even if the graphics suck in full screen..
Keep the topic up if you have updates!
edit: the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ low resolution textures seems to be the problem.
i put everything at its highest maximum and crashes, enabling low resolution textures works, menu opens and so on....
on the other hand, it kept on crashing just at the beginning of the last boss, and then i had to downgrade the resolution to a windowed 1280x1024 (always with LOW resolution textures enabled) and i managed to finish the game without crashes
i'll try tomorrow to start with the other character a new game with the normal (working-till-yesterday) options enabled to see what goes on!!

So far it's happened twice opening the bestiary in the menu and once just opening the menu so far. As an interesting side note, despite having a save after the first 2 bosses with Yunica, their bestiary entries don't show up:

If I recall the crashes also happened after beating those bosses. Coincidence? Even more strange is that Vagullion was there before when I beat him and saved but disappeared since. Very confusing. The crash when I simply opened the menu happened when loading an earlier save and grinding a bit to kill Vagullion a bit easier to try to unlock his bestiary entry again and possibly try to replicate the crash. The first two crashes (bestiary) were on default "Normal" settings, while the third happened after disabling "hardware vertex shader". I'm going to try again in a couple hours when I have more free time to see if I can figure out what's up. I think it might be some sort of issue updating the game data after killing a boss. Maybe missing files or files not updating properly?
As a side note, I've played the original PC release (non-steam) and crashes were very rare, only happening a couple times when loading a new area (happened maybe twice in 3 playthroughs). Fortunately that version also had crash recovery when reloading the game... In any case this makes me think the crash issues going on may be exclusive to the Steam/XSeed version. For reference, these were my settings on the original version:

Going to check with these settings later when I have more free time and see what happens. Maybe mess around a bit more and try to diagnose a cause or fix if I can...
EDIT: Still having the issue. Game crashed when I went into the boss room. Then tried revalidating and again 1 file failed to validate.

Going to try with vsync disabled maybe
EDIT2: Settings now at "Normal" with vsync disabled. I did not crash between the save room before the boss or the save after. No issues loading bestiary this time either, though I'm not sure how consistent that is (Velagunder worked ok before so maybe it was random?). Maybe I was just lucky this time though. I'll play around a little more...
EDIT3: Tried while recording with Fraps this time too just in case that was maybe the issue (I had been recording a few times before) and no crash this time either. I'm moderately sure Vsync was the issue, but again this may just be lucky right now. I'll update if I encounter more crashes later though.
I´m using Windows 7, 8GB Ram, a Radeon R9 380 and a Intel Core i5 3350p.
I´m at the Devils Room (Devil Music Disabled) or short after the Devils Room in Guilty Fire with Hugo Fact. I get the same error randomly or if I open a menu.
I tried activating Low-Res-Textures. It seems like this does help, but unfortunately a new bug is ocurring after some time:
E_OUTOFMEMORY(8007000eh)
->4194304 byte
config_entry.cpp(92)
It does occure less often than the first bug. I find this error quite funny: If I use Normal-Res-Textures the game never got out of memory, but if I use Low-Res-Textures the game says "out of memory -> 4MB", although my hard disk, my ram, my grafic-ram, and every cache exceeds this 4MB by far.
