Ys: The Oath in Felghana

Ys: The Oath in Felghana

Ys Memoire (XSEED ver. leak)
The post, now deleted, leaked Ys Memoire as part of their announcement at the upcoming Anime Expo this year. Any thoughts about it, fellas?

Does that mean it getting a seperate release or updating this version?

If the rumor is true, definitely gonna be a separate version, due to new voices & license, new artworks, tweaked battle gameplay (dual boost) from PSP, and obviously whole new price tag. It would be foolish of publisher to merge it with current PC version - breaking discounts and interests for whoever prefer original PC version, and triggering veterans who prefer challenge (cause dual boost make it easier), possibly having new bugs & crashes related to the merge, achievements broken, etc.

I'm confused what's the difference between the versions? Is the Memorie version a remaster?

Yes, Ys Memorie is the remastered version of Oath in Felghana started first on Switch.

What is the same:
- Characters & Main Story Events/
- Level designs, Monsters & Bosses, Weapons & Items/
- Overall combat & magic systems, boss rushes & time attack mode.
- Cutscenes, Graphics & Soundtracks.

What is different:
+ New re-drawn portraits for characters in dialogue (you can toggle original art styles if wanted)
+ New voice lines including Adol (much different from current Steam voices, oh and Adol still being silent most of the time anyway).
+ Turbo-mode (increase game speed for challenge I guess)
+ Bring one feature from PSP version - dual boost accessory - allowing you to boost twice.
I'm personally fine with how this game is at the moment and I hope it'll be a separate title rather than changing this version.

That being said I'm glad to see XSeed still has the license for at least one Falcom game it previously localised. It doesn't guarantee anything, but it makes me slightly hopeful at least that they also still hold the license to a certain other Falcom game they're hinting at remaking. (I'm keeping my hopes in check, don't worry, and I know it'll be a long time even if it IS true, but I'm just saying).

My opinion is we'll not get a new release nor an update to this version. Memoire was meant to get the game on consoles (it was only pc and psp originally). I can't foresee XSeed porting the new version to PC, and it's pretty unlikely they would spend the effort backporting it as a free patch.

I didn't follow any rumors, do you mean Popful Mail?

Working Designs published Popful Mail back in the 90s. They're referring to Trails in the Sky specifically.

Maybe but on the other hand we did get the psp dub added through a free update 8 years after the games release on pc.

No, XSeed didn't localise Popful Mail. The other commenter was right: I meant Trails in the Sky. They're hinting at remaking it, and if they are, I'll be happier if XSeed are the ones eventually localising it. Even though they've lost some of their best members like Jessica Chavez and Brittany Avery, they're still a great, faithful localisation company who really put the effort in.

Think of it like the Kai or Evo versions of some of the Falcom games.

There would not be much of an issue since Steam itself supports different branches under beta options/launching different options at game startup

If we are talking Game version yes it's manageable, but saves and leaderboard score stuffs? Gonna be quite a pain for devs to deal with questions like - I got save from original, can I use it in newer branch and vice-versa? Why should I start fresh new just to play new version when I already 100% original ver? My time attack scores got deleted, items are missing. etc.

Oh and everytime there is a new update for new version, they still have to make it doesn't break the original game too. And merging the game technically original will have to change too (perhaps new revised coding, new engine version), which could affect original performance, for better or worse.

In other words, saying is easy, but doing it is a little bit dramatic.

I wonder if this enhanced remaster will run slower, at the same speed, or even faster than the current version. LOL the current version flies on current hardware like cutting butter with a hot knife.

Should be locked 60 fps and up to 120 fps as usual, unlocked fps may break game physics and animations of characters & enemies. Plus Memoire also has turbo mode where game speed is increased for challenge, but to confidently do that, you really need a stable locked fps first.

Oh the thread next to this one is testament to that as the guy/gal had it running at over 2000 FPS and could not get his/hers double jump to climb. He/she had to use Vsync to slow the game down.
