Is it just me or is the story rather bland?
I was hoping for something bigger. I'm not through the game completely yet but I doubt I'll see Haruka and the others.

Taking place on Hawaii is fine and all, but the game missing its former soul if you ask me.

pretty much everyone in this forum talks about how boring the story is. It goes nowhere and leads to nothing in the end

Plain piece of bread has more flavour than this story

If it's so bad, why did you leave a positive review then? Hm?

It is possible to dislike one part of a game but still like a game overall.

Yakuza 2 secret korean
Yakuza 3 CIA, secret brother
Yakuza 4 rubber bullets, betrayal after betrayal
Yakuza 5 Yume, and most boring story
Yakuza 7 locker babies

It really is boring. Every chapter in the last game had something interesting to keep you going, plus the whole mystery of how Kasuga ended up where he did.

Here, it's like every time Kasuga is about to do something remotely interesting, we get a time skip and a flashback explaining how the remotely interesting thing didn't happen.

Yakuza 7's locker babies is tame in comparison to the Mirror Face nonsense. Y7 had a fantastic story overall but the Mirror Face portions of the story were easily just as bad as the worst parts from any of the previous Yakuza games.

The story is ... fine? if not typical "best friends forever" cringy Japanese crap. My issue is every scene takes FOR EVER to finish. Like I got the point like 10 minutes ago but the characters are still going on and on and on and on. The devs don't respect you're time, and take forever to get to the point, and then move on with the narrative.

The story in Yakuza games are not exactly the selling point, like Bethesda games. It is the rest of the gameplay that hooks you.

That said, yeah, the story in this game is like Yakuza 4-6 mediocre.

The story was fine. Its not exactly like the main story in most yakuza games is exactly stunning when you look at just one of them.
Just consume product and ready your butthole for more product. I've definitely played worse games than Y8, and I tend to play for the side content more than the main story. It does fall a bit flat, and I'll leave it at that since you haven't completed it yet. But if you want to look at the half-full glass, the lack of resolutions and plot developments would lead one to suspect there is more games on the way. This one set up a lot of stuff and while it's not as electric as the most of the other games, in terms of story, there's a lot of stuff they can build on. Plus, the characters were put into focus heavily, so we got a lot of good scenes especially with Kiryu. The Japan group was really strong imo.

I'm only on chapter 7 but the story is pretty mid so far. There have been some good moments, but I was far more invested in the previous game. Hoping it picks up.

I've already explained how I feel about the story so many times that it's getting tiring, so I'll just sum up my feelings in a few short words from now on:

♥♥♥♥ the writers. ♥♥♥♥ them hard. simple.

it is possible to like certain aspects of a game over the ones you dislike, and still recommend the product.

say you find a game you truly enjoy. it has a fantastic story, fun gameplay, everything you could ever want. except...... it doesn't have borderless fullscreen as an option. GASP

are you going to give it a negative review for that reason alone? if you're smart, then no because you found yourself enjoying other parts of the game over the bad stuff, and expressed it properly.
