How do we climb when flying?

I've got to "Leaves in the Wind", started a flight and the Glide Rings show a curve upward. There's no 'Boost' on controls or a related Upgrade that I found. I checked a walkthrough of this section and the player is climbing almost vertically at one point.

I've obviously missed something...again, could somebody please help me out here?

If you mean the one that I think you mean, instead of flying towards the rights, take a left and follow the edge of the island. There might be something that you can see that could help you reach higher, so that you can go through the rings from above rather than from below.

Took 2 goes but I got through without touching the rings. One of the most obvious puzzles in the game and I overlook it, typical. Thanks again, Rawrkitteh.

Don't worry about it, it had me stumped for a few minutes at first too. So many of the puzzles are obvious, but only after you've found out how.

That Enclave bears an unspoken/unrecorded Insight: use Rifts to propel yourself back up during a Glide Rings course, as touching one is not considered "touching the ground", even without your wings active!

Edit: this Insight even comes into play throughout the Glide Rings courses in Serene Deluge. I once came across a long Glide Rings course where I started relatively low and wound up on top of one of those mountain peaks.
