Because it's popular with the Chinese and nowhere else. I thought that was pretty apparent, but clearly you lack reading comprehension.
I'll give you a conspiracy theory. Have you ever played a multiplayer game where the Chinese playerbase is able to reach NA/EU servers? It might give you an inkling why people don't like it when international dev teams pander to Chinese interests, whether it's a competitive game or not.
It's an easy thing to look into, but I know you'll pretend I'm making it up, so I'll give an example from your favorite website. https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/azwj51/as_a_chinese_player_i_feel_obliged_to_explain_why/
1. they are a character from a book
2. the story they are from has global or near global relevance
just because you have never personally read journey to the west doesn't mean it isn't a globally recognized title and sun wukong is a well recognized character. he fits into the roster just like Beowulf and Aladdin do or how gilgamesh and dracula would fit in if they were in the game
was adding melusine pandering to the french market? if not why not?
Someone asked what people think about the black Snow Queen. I have no objection to black characters but think taking a European fairy tale and making the protagonist African is the lazy option when this could be an opportunity to show people some of the cool African stories that are mostly unknown in the west. Ohia from Ohia and the Thieving Deer would work, his ability to speak to animals would justify some interesting powers.
All other characters have this amazing mix of classic fairy tale with dark fantasy spin-off (plus mysterious lore hinted here and there, like icing on the top).
Wu-Kong has just the classic fairy tale fluff - I feel like all the rest is missing.
P.S. Tbh I've also wanted to start a thread like that earlier this week - but decided I don't need all attacks and drama - so thanks OP I guess (^^)
Not just any mermaid... It's clearly Chuck Norris' wife or daughter, because she can swim through land.
American Born Chinese is a Disney+ show with Sun Wukong in it, so he's Europe adjacent. Also why are you even thinking that Europe adjacent is a criteria?
i fail to see how Melusine is "human"
she has a fish body and can swim
I can swim XD. I guess i am not human then.
And i dont have to to be declared as nonhuman following his statement.
which was the whole point of the joke. Anyway let's stop it here was just a stupid joke anyway don't wanna derail this thread any further
