The whole team is working hard with one goal in mind: making sure you have a good time playing Ravenswatch!

The Hourglass of Dreams update launched last month with a bunch of new content and challenges. And as usual, we like to share some statistics with you.

Players attempted to steal the shards from the Leprechaun’s Cauldron over 80,000 times!

For the Hourglass of Dreams: some of you tried to trigger the Boss very early, only after 5 minutes into a run, or even less sometimes! And you met your doom with 77% of fails at the Dark Hills Master Nightmare! In comparison, triggering the Boss just before the original timer ends (up until 3 minutes before) results in an 83% success rate! 

Now let’s talk about the new quests! Which of the three new mini-bosses was the most deadly of all? At the bottom of the podium, we have Mordred with over 25,000 Heroes killed, followed by Jack’s Ogre with over 90,000 death counts. And finally, at the top, Simorgh, the Giant Roc, with a massacre of 119,000 Heroes. Pretty deadly.

The Hourglass of Dreams update brought new ways to play in Ravenswatch. With the ability to win rewards when triggering the Master Nightmare, this has created a whole new interest in speedruns of the game!

We enjoyed watching your achievements, including SkippyTom[www.speedrun.com]’s current record[www.speedrun.com], set in Adventure with the Rain of Stars modifier, at 4 minutes and 12 seconds.

  • 🐦 Love Shield: Love Shield now grants 4 seconds of invincibility regardless of the rarity of the talent. Added a cooldown on triggering the Invincible status of 14/12/10/8 seconds, depending on the rarity of the talent

  • Panache: Each Panache Point now grants +5 DMG (regardless of the rarity of the talent) in addition to the attack speed bonus, which remains unchanged

  • Thorns Aura: 

    • Increased the radius of the effect area to 5.5 meters (from 4)

    • Fixed an issue where Thorn Aura’s VFX would keep playing while in Death's Door

  • Love Thread: Increased beam damage to 33 damage per second for 6 seconds (from 22 damage for 7 seconds)

  • Black Rose: Fixed an issue where canceling Black Rose would not reset the good amount of cooldown

• Juliet

  • 🐦 Attack: ATTACK now deals 20 damage (from 24)

  • 🐦 Power: PERFECT SHOT now gives +50% Additional Damage (from +100% CRIT CHANCE)

  • Defense: 

    • ATTACK shots triggered from the DEFENSE now scale with Magical Objects, increasing ATTACK

    • ATTACKS triggered by Juliet’s DEFENSE now proc for Ace of Spades and Black Lotus Magical Objects

  • Heartbeat: Triggering TRAIT or receiving Romeo's TRAIT now triggers a shockwave dealing 100/125/150/175 damage (from 80/100/120/140)

  • Vaillant Heart: TRAIT grants both Romeo and Juliet +20% MOVE SPEED and STRENGTH for now 5 seconds/6,25/7,5/8,75 (from 4/5/6/7)

  • Passion Dance: Now restore 4-8 health every second (instead of every tick)

  • Explosive Backstep: Fixed an issue where Explosive Backstep would trigger instantly if the ATTACK button was already held before triggering POWER

Design Note: We received a lot of feedback following Romeo and Juliet's release, and for once, we were surprised that the large majority of players were concerned about how strong the characters were. We took the time to reflect on the feedback and decided to adjust their kit and talents slightly. The idea was to keep what made them fun to play without that "overpowering" effect.

For Juliet, we first underestimated how easy it would be to perform Perfect Shots during combat situations, and thus, it resulted in a crazy outburst of power. The difficulty of balancing Criticals (with the ability of CRIT Chance becoming CRIT Damage) would make up for some wacky situations with that Hero. We believe that her power curve is now much more manageable from a balancing perspective, while still keeping Juliet extremely fierce and strong.

The same goes for Romeo’s Love Shield talent. The Invincibility duration was too high and would lead to very strange situations. As you may remember, Romeo and Juliet were intended as multiplayer characters only, thus performing the SPECIAL required communication and synchronization. As we shifted vision with them being playable in solo as well, there were no more challenges behind the SPECIAL ability. Romeo saw multiple buffs in its kit as well, as it was sometimes perceived as too demanding compared to Juliet. We hope to encourage players to experiment more with his playstyle of quick attacks and fast retreat.

We also upped many other talents, specifically those relying on the TRAIT of the characters. For the same reason that they can work solo now, those talents needed to be better adjusted; it’s all more powerful now!

  • 🐦 Straw Quest: Enemies killed in Straw camps before launching the Straw Quest no longer respawn

  • 🐦 Wood Quest: Fixed an issue where enemies could get stuck OOB

  • Dullahan Quest: Fixed an issue where Morgan’s dialog was not triggered at the Orchard Tree

  • Ghoul Den: Repositioned the Ghoul mini-boss in the stage to prevent easy access to the chest without fighting him

  • 🐦 Altar of Heroes: Fixed an issue where Heroes would sometimes not get teleported to the Altar of Heroes after dying

  • 🐦 Astral Shrines :

    • Green Camps: Now increases randomly 1 talent (from lowest Talent)

    • Yellow Camps: Now increases randomly 2 talents (from 1)

    • Red Camp: Now increase randomly 3 talents (from 2)

  • 🐦 Refugees: Fixed an issue where objects traded with Refugees could get mixed up and not be displayed properly

  • Blood Rituals: Fixed an issue where players could teleport out of the Blood Ritual before the activity starts

• Enemies

  • General: Fixed an issue where enemies could attack behind barriers

  • Snakes: Fixed the VFX of the Snake’s beam attack that would glitch when touching a collision

  • 🐦 Cyclops: Fixed an issue where the Cyclops would stop attacking if he was staggered exactly when he would eat a player

  • Dullahan: Fixed an issue where his horse’s trails of fire weren't dealing any damage to Geppetto’s dummies

  • Tentacle Master Nightmare: Fixed the visual warning of the circular attack that was not displayed in multiplayer for some players

• Magical Objects

  • Fairy Dust: Fixed an issue where fairy dust could stack abnormally

  • 🐦 Horn of Plenty: Fixed an issue where Horn of Plenty's consumables could spawn in an unreachable location

  • 🐦 Bloody Mary’s Mirror: Fixed an issue where Bloody Mary’s Mirror was preventing the selection of specific Refugees’ choices related to VITALITY

The Hourglass of Dreams Update is around the corner and will launch on September 18 on all platforms. It’s time to reveal more about what the content is all about in this new major free update!

Buckle up! We’re going in for a deep dive, but beware of spoilers if you want to discover it on your own! Take a look a this gameplay montage:

The Sandman has decided to make a little room for the Hourglass of Dreams near his shop. This new mechanic activates at the beginning of a new Chapter if you triggered the Master Nightmare before the 18-minute countdown ends in the previous one.

For the longest time, players have been asking for some type of reward for triggering the Master Nightmare early. Until now, only a score bonus in the end screen results would highlight this feat, but we always wanted to add something that had a real impact on the runs.

Now, you’ll receive a certain amount of rewards depending on when you trigger the Boss (the earlier, the better the rewards and their amounts):

• Dream Shards

• Magical Objects

• XP

The Hourglass of Dreams makes up for a new way of playing and new strategies as you progress through your runs. Should you trigger the Boss early and sacrifice points of interest on the map for guaranteed Shards/Items/XP in the next Chapter? Or miss the Hourglass of Dreams rewards because the map has more interesting activities to offer?

Fighting a Master Nightmare early has its costs, you'll be weaker than usual in theory. But the well-earned rewards from the Hourglass of Dreams should allow you to start exploring the next Chapter in good shape.

Aah, the timer. If only we had a coin for every time we were asked to remove it or add time to the runs… We could make Ravenswatch 2 (it’s a joke, don’t panic).

The idea of adding time to the timer has always been on our minds, but it couldn't be done without a trade-off. The game is built around this timer, and although a modifier allows you to remove it entirely, this takes away the essence of the game: the tension, the pressure of making choices, and the storytelling.

So here's the new Overtime mechanic! At the end of the initial 18-minute timer, you will automatically enter the “overtime” period, which will allow you to gain up to 3 more minutes.

Will you use this extra time to finish your current activity, or to spend your last dream shards at the Sandman? Will you take advantage of it to finish as many activities as possible on the map? Or will you avoid Overtime at all costs?

Because while you’re buffing up for the big fight, the Master Nightmare will also take advantage of the Overtime to gain attack power and HP! This gain will be proportional to the time spent in Overtime (up to a certain limit)

Once you enter Overtime, you can teleport immediately to the Boss to avoid wasting another second. Spending no to little time in the Overtime will not affect the Master Nightmare.

Are you sick of Cynric already? (How could you!). Or you’ve been eaten by the Cyclops one too many times? This update is made for you!

The Hourglass of Dreams update brings 3 new optional Quests to Reverie. They will randomly replace the Pigs quests in Dark Hills, Sinbad and the Cyclops in Storm Island, and the Dullahan and Orchad’s tree in Avalon.

In this new quest, you’ll meet with Jack (from Jack and the Beanstalk), who requisitioned you to find his Magic Bean lost in Hogsden. He needs to reach a safe place in the clouds that he once visited, away from the Nightmares threatening his life.

Tough break! As he climbs the Magic Bean, he will face the Ogre, who lives in the sky and menaces to make him fall to the ground! It's up to you to stop him!

Sinbad is back, but this time in a new predicament. You’ll need to escort him through a cave infested by enemies, while he collects diamonds (Sinbad cannot resist a shiny stone). When you finally reach the exit, you’ll face Simorgh, a giant Roc that made the mountain’s peak its nest. 

You see a threatening enemy to defeat, but Sinbad sees a way to escape the island with his loot. Knock down and tame Simorgh to help Sinbad flee.

Morgan is not done in her quest to save Avalon and restore its former glory. This time, her illegitimate son Mordred has taken possession of King Arthur’s crown and threatens to destroy it.

Morgan can only hold on for so long, so you’ll have to navigate the tombs of the fallen city to reach and get rid of Mordred. 

A new activity makes its way into Reverie. Rid the Leprechaun’s Cauldron of the Nightmares spawning around it. But be quick! The cauldron will start to empty itself of its Dream Shards as soon as you activate it. 

It’s time for Scarlet, her Wolf form, Aladdin, Melusine, and Geppetto to get their special premium Outfits enhanced with 3D model alterations and VFX!

Geppetto – A pyrotechnician costume for Geppetto, with a new gleaming hot hammer and a backpack filled with fireworks and turning gears. In addition to his cap and full beard, he put on his best jacket.

Scarlet and her Wolf form – Their skull-shaped masks are reminiscent of obscure forest cults. Scarlet’s human form wields a dagger made of bone. Filling their combo points triggers a magical red smoke coming out of their shoulder pads.

Aladdin – Aladdin removes his hood to reveal a stylish new look! The sand guardian will shine brightly as his Enchantment bar fills up.

Melusine – With her serpent tail, Melusine reveals a new form of mermaid queen, always ready for battle. A trail of water follows her like a cape. Splash!

• 🐦 Aladdin: Fixed an issue where Aladdin's Wish of Omnipotence talent didn't remove the ! stamp in the Compendium

  • Fixed an issue where Wukong's Traveler outfit did not unlock by reaching Chapter 3

  • 🐦 Fixed a bug where Wukong's Thundercloud talent damages were not properly applied with DMG stats

• 🐦 Dash: Fixed an issue where the Dash orientation was not going in the right direction if no displacement input was held (on all Heroes, but was pretty noticeable on Romeo)

  • 🐦 Fixed a bug where Goldilocks' porridge strength effect was no longer triggered if one object of the pile was traded with a Refugee

  • 🐦 Fixed issues with Fairy dust where it could proc on self-damage and stack indefinitely

The reception of the free Romeo & Juliet DLC has been phenomenal. Your feedback exceeded our expectations, and the entire team is thrilled with your reactions. We cannot share the exact numbers due to confidentiality, but I can say that the DLC launch surpassed the 1.0 Monthly Active Players numbers. That’s crazy 🤯

Let's talk about the stats now! Over 500,000 runs have been played with Romeo & Juliet already, and they have died over 2 million times combined since they joined the Ravenswatch!

Your favorite Starting Talent for Romeo is “Ice Rose” with a 45% pick rate, but it’s "Floral Dodge" that you put at the number one spot of Romeo’s most picked talents with a 72% pick rate.

On Juliet’s side, you picked “Volcanic Shots” as your most chosen Starting Talent, with a 51% pick rate. How surprising! But your lucky pick is “Lucky Shot” with an impressive 86% pick rate!

We can’t wait to see what the stats will look like in the long run!

Back in April, we published a Community Survey on the topic of Ravenswatch post-launch updates, which allowed us to gather your impressions of the Nightmares Unleashed Update, as well as your expectations for future game content.

We received over 3500 answers, which is completely bonkers. Thanks for your participation! Let’s check the results.

The first surprising stat was the repartition of solo and co-op players. Almost 45% of respondents indicated that they were co-op players only, compared to 18% of solo exclusive players. There was also a good representation of players who admitted to enjoying both solo and co-op play, with 37% of the responses. This was quite reassuring as we were about to launch the Romeo & Juliet DLC.

Overall, the Nightmares Unleashed Update was well received with a 4.17 out of 5 score on general appreciation. The new Boss Patterns were the most liked addition, whereas you were the most critical of the Refugees and Abu Al Jaan.
We were thrilled to see that there was genuine enthusiasm for the addition of new Side Quests. That's perfect timing, because our next update will bring you new adventures! You’re also interested in new Talents for existing Heroes, which is tricky because adding new talents quickly becomes exponential with the number of heroes we already have in the game. But there was the same interest in new Magical Objects, and we’ve got some ideas for those!

We really enjoyed reviewing the responses to this first community survey. It provided us with valuable insights into what should be a priority during the post-launch support of Ravenswatch. We’re already working on a new survey coming out this summer to ask you about more specific balancing changes to Talents and Magical Objects.
